Today we’d like to introduce you to Xavier Morgan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been drawn to the art of storytelling. I grew up watching Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg and Client Eastwood films and used to say, “How can I do what they do”? So, because I have an overactive imagination, filmmaking in every capacity inevitably became one of the things I take most seriously.
I went to SCAD in Savannah, GA for my graduate program. I met a lot of Actors who came from theatre and trained with and learned from them, as we were making our way.
I eventually moved to Atlanta, trained with coaches, before getting involved with projects.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’d say my road has been pretty balanced, as things begin to pan out at a steady pace.
Like with any career, there’s a lot of getting your feet wet in the beginning. As Actors, I think one of the biggest obstacles we face is not getting the call back after an audition. It can be frustrating but over time, each audition becomes a learning experience and obviously something to look forward to.
But regardless of the obstacle, if you’re consistent and serious, someone will see the value in what you bring to the table.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m an Actor and Writer.
I’ve just wrapped my first lead role in a new independent feature and have another, currently in production.
I enjoy being talent; however, as a storyteller in general, I find it important to know how to wear just about every hat in your industry.
So, while Acting is the primary talent I rely on, I’ve decided to create and write my own content, to always have more than one gig going on at a time and fill every crucial role in production, to create relatable and thought-provoking projects.
What were you like growing up?
I’m a pretty vibrant guy for the most part. I’m usually very playful and easy going and I’ve always been that way.
I enjoy bringing that energy into a room; especially these days, when you never really know who needs it.
Interestingly enough; as a kid, I was never into toys or cartoons, fantasy films or many of the things that kids my age were into.
I was more drawn to social engagements, actual conversations and anything that allowed me to be as free and expressive as I wanted to be.
I was the kid who probably said a little too much and went too far. Might still be the case today but perhaps this is an addition to why I chose this career path.
