Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmina Sadiki.
Hi Yasmina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been singing for ten years professionally now.
Quickly found a passion for music and singing during high school. I was blessed to have had such a supportive and enthusiastic arts facility in my school who truly believed in me. This really motivated me to begin uploading songs to Soundcloud at the time. This is where my love for songwriting and freestyling began. I think I have always had a skill for writing and storytelling.
Haan Rahman is someone I truly believe helped me get to where I am today. We had this song on Soundcloud together, “What U Need” featuring The Kid Laroi. Despite my voice not being such a focal point of the song. Here is when other local Sydney producers and rappers started to notice me and what I was doing. From here I met an abundance of amazing musicians, producers and artists that opened up May new stud of opportunity for me.
It all happened so naturally, I was so determined to keep working on this craft. I saw the potential in myself and so did my peers.
Through a mutual friend, I met Dust3y a producer and my friend who is working with me for our upcoming (and my debut) project. That’s when the ball really started rolling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I suppose there have not been many notable struggles necessarily through my musical journey but definitely in my own personal life. However, I enjoy exploring these dark places and find a power in telling these stories. I hope to inspire others and myself through my music.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/vocalist/songwriter/freestyler!! Truthfully I do not know how to define my role. I am driven by whatever is most inspiring me that day. I find it hard to define but I primarily sing neo-soul, alternative jazz/hip hop hop.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid 19 has taught me that we do have the power to take control of our lives for the better by taking small but valuable steps. Waking up and immediately making your bed, spending 30 minutes outside. You would be surprised the positive impact it has on our mental health.
