Meet Yu-Kai Lin of Kai Lin Art in West Midtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yu-Kai Lin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Kai Lin Art after a few years of working in two other galleries and realizing that there was a growing need for emerging Southeast based artists to have a space to exhibit their artwork. We opened the gallery in 2008 and now 8 years later, it’s been a great ride thus far. I feel like we build community through art by creating the environment for creativity to flourish; connection, conversation, and collaboration to happen. It’s inspirational to come to work every day and think back on all the collectors and artists and patrons that have helped make our gallery what it is today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As my mom says, “Nothing good ever comes easy.” If it were smooth, I think I’d be onto the next challenge. Art is fickle and elusive. Art is a luxury to most but to our tribe of artists and patrons, it’s what sustains and drives us. I think any creative field is a balance of pushing the envelope, creating meaningful dialogue while working within budget constraints. Every day I feel inspired to create the opportunity for art to happen by connecting with people that have an interest in art and that need inspiration in their homes or office spaces. What we provide at Kai Lin Art is the environment for art to happen.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kai Lin Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kai Lin Art is a Southeast-based art gallery that specializes in emerging and established artists that live and work in the Southeast. We exhibit a wide range of works in all mediums from paintings to sculpture, mixed media work to photography.

I’m proud that we’re known for our inclusive and joyful environment. It’s our mission to be a space where art is celebrated, where art is explained but never complicated, where people feel inspired to want to learn and connect.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I foresee in the distant future an expansion into a new market.
