Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Tso.
Hi Zach, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Hong Kong, my mother was an insurance worker and my father was an engineer. Growing up I found myself in and out of my father’s office, looking at construction documents and visiting building sites, fascinated by the insanely complicated structures that regular people have built; naturally, that lead to me choosing Interior Design in college, where it felt like a nice medium of being mathematical like my father’s work, but also part of my world where I get to roam and “art” a little bit.
I came to America in the midst of the pandemic, alone, to pursue the rest of my college degree, That is when I further honed in my skills as an interior designer but also explored my love for other different mediums and topics; I was fascinated by all the fine intricacies that goes into everything – the rules and visual theories of graphic design, the flow and forms of fashion design, the science and chemistry behind tattooing – I find joy in learning new things and find even more joy in perfecting my craft in them.
Right now I find myself doing tattooing ( just tattooed myself recently! ), graphic designs, photography, and interior design, and I’m excited to explore more areas of art and design!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an artist I’ve always struggled in finding ways to push the envelope, it’s in everything I do – “how do I push certain elements of my design to the limits and beyond? How do I impact my audience in a possible way?” so asking that question again and again and seeking out the answer has been a constant struggle, which I absolutely live for.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do a lot of different things, I tattoo, I interior design, I design architecture, I graphic design, I take pictures, and right now I’m giving the music a try (I find it to be a very beautiful and emotional form of art) I’m always looking for new things to learn and explore.
One thing that runs through everything I do, and that I’m very proud of is my attention and love for the most minute detail. Every aspect of the things I do is dealt with the utmost attention and obsession to detail. You’d find me obsessing over how a floor carpet is transitioning to the floor, or how a specific letter is slightly taller than the rest.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My friends, I owe so much of who I am today to my friends, for being there during my tough times but also for being my biggest inspirations ever. Seeing them work and live, succeed but also fail (it’s important to have both) has inspired me to live my life to the fullest and make sure I offer as much as I can to the world and the people around me.
