Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Grey.
Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been doing music for three years now. I originally started making music because my friends were doing it, but I was always into writing. I would write poetry, books, comics almost anything I can use as an outlet for my emotions. At the time, I was in a two years relationship and come to find out she moved away and gets into another relationship almost immediately after telling me she didn’t want me to move down there with her. I was heartbroken, the little boy version of heartbroken and I created my first album “stages of anxiety” and I released it on all platforms for the very first time and it got 20,000 streams within one month without paid promotion. That’s when I saw potential in music but as I started to continue I’ve noticed the friends I’ve made music with were all in different lanes one was doing rock another was doing hip hop another was doing drill and I was doing r&b. So we kind of all went our separate ways. I got tired of paying for studio time or relying on my friend’s schedule to record so I went out and bought all my equipment. I paid for classes to learn to mix and master my own music, from there I was continuously making music about just women Who hurt me.
As I got older, I saw that I needed to switch genres in music in order to stay relevant I couldn’t stay stagnant, at this time I’m much older and wiser and in a very toxic relationship. I wasn’t aware of the things they have said and done to me but I stayed in the relationship due to manipulative tactics. I wasn’t innocent as well but still. We were together for two years and I was in Atlanta, Georgia and she was in Omaha, Nebraska we did long-distance for a year and I moved to Omaha for her. I thought moving back would solve a lot of our issues. I was sadly mistaking, I moved back and within the two years we were together, I’ve never met her father. She broke up with me a year later, and within one month she had a new boyfriend who she posted with her father. I was shattered. Broken. Devastated. In chronic pain for quite some time. I’ll never ever be the same again. I then decided to create “my secret obsession” which was a dark alternative crazy sad depiction of my life with & without her. Starting from when I met her to the end of our relationship describing everything she had done and things I have done. Till this day, that is my most streamed album sitting at 51,718 streams. I’m now currently in the middle of switching to rock and heavy metal and have developed a team along with having management done. I was discovered on Spotify discover weekly and they contacted me and hear I am today. There’s lots more to be done and lots more to be said but this is most definitely a start.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has most definitely been a very bumpy, rough, rigid road. The biggest challenges with this can sometimes be creativity esp when life is very hard. I have lost two of my best friends due to them doing some unspeakable things to me that has caused ptsd and trauma to me mentally along with my ex-girlfriend cheating on me. Dealing with things like that. I wasn’t able to eat, sleep, record and I was admitted to the hospital four times. I lost 40lbs in 1 month and had no idea what I was going to do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an audio engineer, recording artist and do my mixing and mastering. I specialize in Recording and I’m known for R&B. My most proud moment was being asked by another teams management to have me guest star at their performance and with that being my first performance, I sold out the place. Then my best friend who is also an artist known as Nobody$ Sold out his first concert and I was there to experience that as well. What sets me apart from others is my drive, dedication and my flows. I have a very sleek, smooth, unique voice and have a flow that just rides any beat created or searched for.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next five years, I see myself verified, traveling on tour with my team. Living & Recording in bigger city than Atlanta, Georgia. With my own clothing brand “Mso” Which stands for “my secret obsession” just the vision and branding of that has such a powerful impact behind it. In ten years, I will for sure have met & recorded a song with my biggest idol & inspiration Drake.
