Today we’d like to introduce you to Braxton De’John.
Braxton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
All praise to God, because without him I wouldn’t be where I am today. It all started as a child, my hobbies were listening to music, playing dress up, web designing, and capturing/editing photos. These hobbies later grew into passions that have opened many doors for me which is the reason you are reading this today.
The things I found interest in allowed me to express myself creatively. My interest for fashion developed early on by learning the importance of looking your best when you’re in public. While learning through my brother and older cousins, I was intrigued by different brands and styles of clothing. In 2006 (age 11) I got into web design. I taught myself how to design my own profile using photos, graphics, fonts, music and codes to capture my mood. By 2008, I was known for my skills in creating and my peers looked to me to edit pictures and design their profiles.
Although I’ve always had a passion for fashion, it wasn’t until my time during high school when I was able to express it more freely. I was heavily inspired by artists like Pharrell, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Rihanna and others. At some point of each of their career, they have contributed to fashion by setting their own trends. Channeling my inspiration when it was time for me to get dressed, I would always search for the odd pieces because I wanted to stand out from everyone else and I did just that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up, I always looked at myself as a creator no matter what the scenario was. Although it came naturally, it wasn’t easy for me at all. Several struggles along the way, but one that I would really put focus on would be my tendency to have self-doubt. Though I knew my capability, I would still in some way, try to seek approval from others around me which shouldn’t be the case! As a creator, you have to grasp the concept of putting your idea or vision out into the world without having the unexpected fear of someone else’s disapproval or approval.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It’s not necessarily what I do but how I do it. As a published wardrobe stylist and creative director attention to detail help me execute the vision of any project. Today, I am most proud of being able to overcome certain obstacles but yet still being able to pursue my passions.
Determination and willpower are what set me apart from others. Being told no was and still is one obstacle that I constantly to deal with but I don’t let “no” discourage me, it’s a motivation at this point.
Any big plans?
In the future, Braxton De’John Productions will be established. The name alone will be able to speak for itself. As a creator, having a vision and being able to mold it into existence is a feeling like no other. Which brings me to why in the future, I look forward to working with more creators. When the opportunity presents itself, the possibilities are endless and that’s what I live for. Creators being able to uplift and inspire one another just off creativity itself. I plan to take things to the next level by having my own production agency that will include designers, photographers, models, etc.
