Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana aka Miss Wright.
Hi Briana aka Miss Wright, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I learned early on that I thrived in front of others; dancing, acting, public speaking & more. Because of this, I took a television-broadcasting course in high school & there, I realized I wanted to have a career in journalism. I studied broadcast journalism at The Pennsylvania State University. I learned a lot there and managed to land several internships that have helped shaped my career. From hosting a radio show on the school’s Lion 90.7 FM to interning at iHeartMedia with the nationally syndicated radio/internet show, The Breakfast Club- I gained incredible experience in every facet of media including writing, editing, social media management, producing, hosting and more. Following graduation, I took on many jobs in hopes of expeditiously thwarting my career. I was a talent service coordinator at QVC Television Network, a production trainee at Fox 29 News, and a correspondent/writer for EURweb magazine & YV Media… at the same time! Once Covid hit, I was discouraged that my career would be negatively impacted but it actually took off. I began to participate in digital press junkets with all kinds of celebrities such as Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Delroy Lindo, Meagan Good, Toosii, & Marsai Martin, to name a few. I started to contribute at The Source Magazine, I landed a full-time remote position with Adult Swim and I put more effort than ever before into my YouTube channel and brand, Miss Wight TV. Once Covid settled a bit and I had the opportunity to relocate to Atlanta, the home of Adult Swim, I jumped at the opportunity. Eager to participate in live event coverage, network, and get a taste of the media hub that ATL has become, I knew Atlanta was where I needed to be. So, here I am!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in journalism has been nothing short of tumultuous. This career path has many obstacles, especially with a focus in entertainment news. Quite often, media outlets do not want to compensate contributors for their work. One can imagine how frustrating it can be to be an experienced, degreed, adult & still expected to intern or even work for free, but the media industry can be that way. Seeking opportunities is also incredibly difficult. Just knowing the right people can get you in the door. But when you don’t, it’s hard to get anyone to give you a chance at times. Combatting these hardships has tested my determination. I’ve asked myself, “will it be like this forever? Are my dreams of covering a carpet unrealistic? What do I have to do to get the support I deserve?” But to persevere, continue grinding and trust the process, takes a willingness that only breeds success and I’m confident that I possess it. That is why I’m here today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a multimedia journalist & content creator. Conducting excellent interviews and giving fruitful, entertainment news coverage is what I specialize in. I’m dedicated to providing coverage that uplifts, enlightens, entertains and educates its viewers, whether on my own platform or for any other outlet. I believe that sets me apart from the aspect of journalism that people often associate with “misleading” or “gossip.” Anyone can be a blogger or journalist today because of technology and how easy it is to spread content worldwide. Yet, I’m here to set the tone with a background of extensive skills in media, ethics of news and a compelling personality to match.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most are surprised to know is that I just moved to Atlanta in March of 2022. I’m from a small town right outside of Philly called Norristown and I’m 24 years old. I took some time away from reporting amidst my move to get settled in but now, I’m eagerly searching for a new media outlet to contribute at & provide some stellar coverage! Outside of media, I love to travel and document most of it on my YouTube channel. I’m working steadfastly toward my goal of 1k subscribers, so please subscribe! I also love to dance, read and watch reality television.
