Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Avalos.
Briana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the suburbs outside of Chicago and knew from a young age that I really wanted to live somewhere warmer, so when it came time to look for colleges, I headed South. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Advertising and Branding in 2021. I have always loved living in Savannah, so I decided to stay in town after I graduated and have become very involved with local businesses and design communities. I’ve been freelancing, working a 9-5 creative position, and serving at a local fine dining restaurant. Working in the service industry has taught me a lot about hard work and building meaningful relationships, so it’s something I still like to do a few days a week alongside all of my creative work. And in about two weeks, I’ll be starting a new position as a Creative Assistant at a local brewery, which is exactly the industry niche that I love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. From family struggles to loss of loved ones, to challenges of college through Covid-19; it’s been a wild ride. I’m very fortunate to have supportive people in my life, as they make the journey much more enjoyable.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to work in a variety of creative areas, but my specialties right now lie in copywriting and social media work. I love to use a creative voice and tone to bring a brand to life. It’s important to me that brands connect with their audience on a personal level and develop a lasting relationships. I specifically enjoy working with brands in the alcohol and cannabis industries, as they have very witty and bold personalities. I love to integrate a bit of humor and wordplay into the work that I create, and those industries are the perfect fit for that kind of work!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that patience, willingness to make mistakes, and relentless ambition are important to my success. I firmly believe that learning will be an ongoing part of my creative journey, and that includes learning from my mistakes. I work hard to grant myself patience as I explore different depths of my work and accept that it won’t always go according to plan. But the pursuit of greater learning and experiences is what drives me forward. I always aim to be the best version of myself, and I like to defy the standard and push the boundaries of creativity.
