Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Neal.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a single mother of four and for years I have worked extremely hard- doing multiple jobs at a time to give my children the life they deserve. I put my love of art and my own personal dreams to the side to obtain the goal to be homeowner. This year I was able to purchase my first home through the Habitat For Humanity program. It helped me to see that truly all things are possible with God and it was now or never for me to step out on faith and pursue art full-time. I decided to pour myself into my “side” business- which is painting- whether is be nativities, murals, paintings, clothes, etc. painting is what I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy, when you are the sole provider for a family it’s hard not to second guess yourself when you take big leaps it can be super scary. There were times though I worked super long hours and was away from my kids so the pros outweigh the cons to take that leap and be with my kids more
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I paint. On clothes. On walls. On canvas. During the holidays I paint nativities and those are some of my most popular requests. I am an avid thrifter and see the purpose of reused materials. I enjoy thrifting paintings/wall art and painting over them, I enjoy thrifting unique pieces of clothing and jackets and painting on them as well.
I am breaking into murals and I love to see my vision come to life large scale.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I grew up afraid. Afraid to do anything. It wasn’t until I ended up in a very bad marriage and lost myself that I truly found God and let go of fear. I took the risk to apply for a Habitat for Humanity home even though the odds of being chosen was 1/300… and then I got the call.
I took the risk and left a salary position to follow dreams and have watched God continue to provide for my family.
Without risk- no reward! Take the leap! Trust God!
