Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Walker.
Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Appleliciousbybrittanyandco was started as a means of inspiration for my daughters and me during this pandemic. I have always loved to cook and bake with my daughters, so one day when I was given the opportunity to take a candy apple class, I went for it and I loved it and girls loved helping me so we began to make candied apples everyday, we incorporated vibrant colors, themes, and flavors. I decided to sell my apples and the love shown by the people in my town was overwhelming! I then decided to make my business official by obtaining my LLC and expanding beyond just making apples we are a full catering service.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is always easy. There have been times where I have wanted to give up due to sales dropping or feeling like people have become uninterested. I’m the product; however, I am doing this for my girls and I want to show them the importance of perseverance and believing in yourself even when it seems all odds are against you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a proud graduate of the Unsinkable Albany State University! I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2010 and I also received my Master’s degree from my beloved graduate school at Mercer University. I have been a mental health professional for more than five years and I enjoy pouring into those who need that extra push in order to pour into themselves. I enjoy making people feel good and I aspire to do that through whatever vessel of service I am providing rather it be through my cooking or my counseling. I also have a 501 c3 non-profit organization, “The Dior Monae still hearts Foundation,” in which we provide support, counsel, and an array of mental health resources for women and families who have suffered a pregnancy loss visit stillbirth, Miscarriage, or IVF procedure. I feel that my purpose is not limited to one thing and I aspire to be great in every aspect that God sets before me.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I look at everyone who can teach me something new as a vessel. I believe that God gives us the people we need and it is up to us to use them. For me building relationships with those who can teach, help, and direct me in a positive way has worked for me. I don’t limit myself to a certain group or clique. I know all types of people and all of them have a special quality that I do not possess; however, they do not mind sharing it with me and That’s the beauty of networking, mentioning, and providing a service in my opinion. I am TEACHABLE and I take pride in that because I am willing to be taught something from anybody because I am aware that I do not know everything!
