Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Smith.
Hi Bruce, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I loved to listen to music. I would hear a song and I was told that I was able to learn it and sing it back. Michael Jackson was always my idol. I remember watching his music videos and wanting to dance and sing.
When I was about eight years old, I had a chance to go to my first studio session with my uncle. I thought it was the coolest thing. I watched the engineer record and mix vocals down. I remember hearing the song after it was complete. I remember thinking, “I can do that”.
When I got home, I begged my mother and father for a studio. I wanted to be able to have my own recording studio. My father bought me a computer and a Casio Keyboard. I installed Fruity Loops and I started to write songs.
I continued to sing/record and make music throughout high school. The problem was, I was too shy to let anyone hear it. I never sung in public or showed anyone my music. I continued to work on my tone and my voice.
I graduated high school and decided to go to school to become a Computer Engineer. My passion has always been music but the shyness got the best of me.
2019 the world changed. It didn’t just change for me but it changed for the world. Wearing a mask became mandatory, deaths were at an all time high. I never knew that in my lifetime, I would live in a state of a pandemic. I thought to myself, “What am I waiting for?” Why was I holding on to music and when will I let the world hear me? Life changed and it wasn’t in my control. I thought, Why not do something that I could control.
So, I released my first song!!!
Who would have ever known the celebrities that I love and grew up listening too, would love my music?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that songwriting is my passion. It’s what I want to do. With that being said, I learn something new from it everyday. Music theory, Structure, Cadence…etc. Music is almost like a living thing is keeps evolving. I plan to evolve with it. My plan is keep putting out great work. My challenges and obstacles will be/has been broken with the work that I put out.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
