Rising Stars: Meet Caleb Spencer Barr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Spencer Barr.

Hi Caleb Spencer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as an Actor working here in Georgia with Director Jibril Hayens. Who was directing a feature film on the black panther party, and I happened to evolve from acting from that particular film to being on CW, TWD, and a few other projects here and there. Then I found myself getting involved with camera work, which turned into me doing a lot of 1st AC gigs for many feature films. Now being in the industry for six years, I’ve grown into the passion of directing and exploring the ever-growing branch of cinematography with the use of a smartphone device.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that being in the industry has its ups and downs. You will learn many trades in business, in collaborations, and many other fields that are required in order to really push beyond the common wall that is set in the industry. The obstacles really fall in the indie side of the industry because most indie films are not always looked at as high value unless it gains a massive amount of following which really would push it to the limit. The Challenge comes when trying to really push the Indie level of creativity to the level of being of high value. I believe Atlanta has a very strong present when it comes to indie films, yet I also believe highly that in order to grow from the stage that it is, we as creators have to really push and exceed beyond the common idea that we need ”millions of dollars to create a million dollar film”. A Director can have 2.5 million dollars and create an outstanding Oscar-winning film, or he could have a few thousand and create an outstanding film that reaches the Telly awards so it really doesn’t matter the direction it goes… its the mindset of knowing that you can create anything as long as you don’t limit yourself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known as a director, cinematographer and recently a phonographer who specializes in the indie film world. I’ve worked on many short films, features and content. I personally have started a brand known as DNCU which focuses on Dystopian Fiction and right now, I’m in the process of creating multiple media projects and shorts that will expand across social media to really push the bounds of the distribution world.
