Hi Chanel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
To start off, it took me a minute to start my business believe it or not. After I graduated college, becoming a flight attendant was my dream career but the time wasn’t right. I knew I wanted to do something related to travel and being able to explore but nothing came to mind at the time. As I took trips with friends and family, I started to take the initiative of planning them. Then, I thought, “Why not get paid for it?!” That’s when becoming a travel agent didn’t sound like a bad idea. How did I get this far? Honestly, I want to believe God of course. Not only do I pray for the things I want in life but I pray for my business. Furthermore, support is a key factor in my success. Without the support from family, friends, and strangers, I wouldn’t be anywhere without them. They are the reason why I put so much into C&T Getaways and the reason why I have big dreams for my business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been more smooth than rough surprisingly. As an entrepreneur, you go through trial and error. You see what works for a business and what can be improved, that’s why I value feedback from my clients. The only problem I can think of was not starting any sooner, I sincerely love what I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a travel agent that owns my own travel agency, C&T Getaways. I provide services that consist of booking trips, creating itineraries for the trips, managing payments and documents needed for travel, and working with a variety of vendors to make sure requests are met. I am most proud of myself for having the courage and ability to start my own business. What sets me apart from others is the quality of my services, as well as ability to go above and beyond to help each customer and provide them with the best information needed for their trip.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Entrepreneurs take risks every day, from the moment they create a business to investing money into it not knowing whether it’s going to be a gain or loss. The perspective I have on taking risks is just do it. “No risk, no reward.” We spend money every day so why not spend money on something that can maybe make you some more money? Not everything is a guaranteed return but if you do things the right way and stay consistent then it’ll come back to you in a matter of time. Good things also don’t happen overnight, you have to put in the work to get back the results you want and that’s with anything you do in life.
