Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Doc.
Hi Don, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2012, before my father died, I made him a promise that I would continue his legacy with music by playing the guitar. I grew up watching my father play in his gospel group and listening to some good music with him. He taught me a lot, especially about music. The past 2 or 3 years, I’ve been finding myself as an artist. My guitar and I have a closer bond, I’m producing and writing better records, and I just got my Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering. So as of today, I’m just making a seat at the table waiting to be served more blessings.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all….but that’s the same thing that pushes me. After my father passed, it took a lot of time for me to find myself. I was lost so I joined the military which was very bittersweet. I found a lot more about myself but I also had to go through some real shit to shed some of this skin. However, on the music tip, I’ve lost hella beats, poor investments, computer crashed and wiped my hard drive and etc. My two biggest challenges so far is learning the music buiz and mastering my guitar.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Artist/Guitarist/Producer and Engineer specializing in music production. I am known for my free-spirited vibe which translates through the music I create. I’m most proud of the way I continue to evolve. I’m a jack of all trades and my energy is unmatched.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My best advice is just to talk to people. Society has made it weird for us to talk and connect with people. You never know who you may meet. For example, I told a guy on the street I liked his shirt and I ended up being his guitarist for his show, I’ve made a lot of musical connections by just talking,
