Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Jones.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I owe all the credit to God for giving me the love for art and my creative expression, but Chozen Graphics didn’t happen overnight, it originally was never even a thought of mine, my first love was architecture and interior design, how I went from Designing homes to designing “Visual Experiences.” I’ve always had a passion for art, as long as I can remember, trying to draw everything, paint everything, color, whatever. As time went on, I never picked up the whole drawing thing, to this day, I still can’t draw. The only thing I could draw was straight lines and what are homes, a bunch a straight line. Because I was so good it I just knew being an Architect was the thing for me, I had notebooks full of home drawings, I drew out every house on my street, I loved it, I was invested in it, I even went to special High School, Savannah Early College Program (Now Savannah Early College High School), where Architecture and Home Preservation was a pathway.
While doing all of this, I had a growing fascination with technology I could break a computer apart and put it back together, figure almost anything out, I became the “IT guy” of the family, photography and videography caught my attention. You can almost say I was all over the place growing up, but what I know now that I didn’t know then God was just laying the foundation for what was to come. Being blessed with all these natural gifts and talents, never having any formal training, teaching or even someone to look to. Once I started using my gifts at my church, Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship – Savannah, GA, everything started forming together. I didn’t know what I was doing was graphic design I just wanted to visually tell a story. All in all, there was a very pivotal moment in 2009 when I knew Graphic design was what I wanted to do, I spent the weekend with my grandmother, the whole weekend we talked about my goals in life, what I’ve done, where I want to go, that following Monday she passed away, while I was devastated knowing we had that conversation before assured me I was on the right path and from there Chozen Graphics & Design was born. For years I have continued to elevate my expertise with ongoing training in emerging digital design technologies, offering my services to clients on a freelance basis. Naturally, I pursued graphic design as an undergraduate student at Georgia State University, where I made multiple connections that prepared me for the real world. In August 2019, I officially left my “corporate America” job on a whim to pursue Chozen Graphics full-time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think it’s very rare for any entrepreneur to say their road has been smooth. This road has not been easy, but struggle and challenges produce growth and I’m constantly growing, mentally and creatively. One of my biggest struggles was telling people No and overworking myself. There have been times when trying to please make everyone happy backfired on me. I had to learn and accept the fact that I’m only one person and as much as I want to make everyone’s brand, event, etc. Look great, its not possible and keeping a high quality of work. I’ve lost big deals trying because I simply overbooked myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
