Hi Eugene, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My dream has always been to be an entrepreneur. As many of us know, that’s easier said than done. Like many people, I spent most of my life working for corporate America. I did well enough for myself and eventually carved out my own small slice of the “American Dream.” I was blessed with good health, wealth, and stability. However, that changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. My employer during that time doubled my workload and refused to offer the administrative support that should logically accompany such a demand. This led to impossibly long work hours (without overtime pay) and caused strain on my physical and emotional health, as well as straining my personal relationships. After further internal conflicts and lack of support, I was forced to leave corporate America. It was one of the most challenging times of my life. However, my late grandmother taught me that when one door closes, God will open another.
It was then I realized that the everyday routine of a 9-to-5 can stifle and drain you of your passions and creativity. With the support of my partner, I decided to take a step out on faith and forge my own path forward. I had always received compliments on my beard (it’s how my partner “broke the ice” when first meeting me). I used other beard products before but noticed that many of them were generic brands with fancy labels and even fewer were Black-owned beard products. That’s when Boujee Beards was born.
After researching and testing, I started creating my own formulas for my own products. Boujee Beards products are all-natural and made in-house. We have been in business for more than a year now. Our company has a great online presence and customers across the country. Boujee Beards are even sold in brick-and-mortar locations such as barbershops as far west as California. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Boujee Beards has been a great success. Sales have been great, and we have a strong online presence. Of course, there are challenges with any new start-up, but those were overcome through networking, prayer, and perseverance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Becoming an Entrepreneur is now what I’m more relatable to. I was in corporate management for over 15+ years. I wanted more freedom and flexibility in my life. Now that I can be in-charge of my own destiny, it makes my life that more precious.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There is a large market for beard products. This is a billion dollar industry. I only see more opportunities and continued success stories from Boujee Beards.
