Today we’d like to introduce you to James Kirklin III.
Hi James, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started as a child that had large-scale dreams and a knack for making a dollar. I did not have much growing up, monetarily speaking, but I had the wherewithal even as a child to work with what I had and to use my gift of exceptional communication skills to build rapport with those I would encounter. I remember the days of going to Sam’s Club and buying $20 worth of candy to make $50 over the course of the week. I remember having old baseball bats, gloves, and cleats and selling them just for a little extra money. I was conditioning my entrepreneurial mindset before I even knew what it meant to be an entrepreneur. I can truly say I got to where I am today because of the discipline I have built over the duration of my childhood / young adulthood. I have been subconsciously preparing myself for the success I am finally seeing, and it is hard to believe that I have not even begun to scratch the surface of the level of success I will one day achieve. I know what it is like for a family of five to share two bedrooms. I know what it is like to sleep three siblings in one bed. I know what it is like to have never had a house to call home. I know what it is like to have one barely-functioning minivan for the entire family and having to get to and from across town. I know what it is like to get your entire wardrobe off the sale rack from the collection from the year before. I know what it is like to not be able to go on the end of the year trip with my travel team because my family did not have the money for it at the time. All these experiences did nothing but encourage me to go harder because I know where I have been, and I see more clearly than ever the direction that I am headed. You have to see the success before you see it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In no way has my journey been a smooth one. From a young age, I was aware that I would one day want better for myself. Funny enough, I spoke at length with my mother a few days ago about how I never technically went without, but I surely recognized early on that I did not receive what would be considered the “extra.” My parents made many sacrifices, and for that, I am thankful. Often overlooked, I always had to go the extra mile just to prove that I belonged with my counterparts. Whether that be in athletics or in life in general, my road to success came with many roadblocks. I had aspirations to one day play professional baseball since a young age, and what happens? During the last year of my college eligibility, I tear my labrum in both of my shoulders. However, the feeling I had after tearing the second labrum was not one of disappointment, but one of acceptance that my baseball career was over and that it was time to move into the next phase of life. I was ready to tackle my real estate journey head-on because it was always a field that intrigued me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a real estate professional. I specialize in working with buyers and sellers who are looking for full transparency, consistent communication and a smooth transaction. I am most proud of the fact that while I am much on the younger side of the real estate world, I have no issues working in cohesion with those who come from all walks of life, whether that be first-time homebuyers or homeowners that have owned different homes for 40+ years. I would not trade the relationships that I have built since I began my real estate career for anything. What sets me apart from others is that I can genuinely say that I come from a place of service. I find the most fulfillment in helping my clients achieve, and in most cases exceed their real estate goals and aspirations. I am huge on setting expectations with clients because I believe conflict only arises when expectations differ.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to tell the readers that your path is your path, and your journey is your journey. Never let a person or an instance veer you off the route that you believe is destined for you. I heard a great analogy recently. The synopsis was that as long as you keep pulling at the rubber band, EVENTUALLY it has to pop. You only fail when you quit. The work you put in is not going unnoticed, even when you are not seeing immediate results.
