Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeddie Carnes.
Hi Jeddie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was born and raised from Fairfield, Al. As a little girl, I can remember spending a lot of my time at my grandmothers Marcel’s beauty salon in Ensley, Alabama playing with her famous mannequin head and sneaking into my mother’s Fashion Fair makeup bag and applying makeup on all my dolls, I knew then I had a love for makeup. As I got older, I lost interest in makeup due to a family member advising me I would never make any money as a Makeup Artist. I later, decided to go to college and follow my second passion which was Law, after I graduated with my degrees in 2014 life took me for a complete turn. I was involved in abusive relationship for 2 1/2 years where I had to learn how to cover my bruises and that’s when I fell back in love with makeup. I used makeup as my escape from my abusive relationship and during the darkest time of my life makeup saved me!!!!!!!!! I later enrolled in The AHMNI makeup academy where I was certified in beauty, theatrical and special effects makeup. In 2015, I stepped out on faith and became a freelance makeup artist and now my makeup career is growing and glowing, but I still have so much more in store for me and my brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have definitely had some challenges owning and growing my own business. One of my biggest challenges was learning how to properly apply makeup and owning my own uniqueness and individuality within my craft. As an artist, you sometimes lose focus on the gift that God has given you and compare your journey to others. Once I learned to focus on my purpose and take my eyes off everyone else my path and my vision became clear and my clientele began to increase. Another challenge for me was marketing and branding for my audience. Once I sharpened my craft and honed my target market, I was able to cater to a specific audience and gained more clientele.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in three different makeup fields: Beauty, Theatrical and Special effects makeup. I’m known for my slogan “Making women Beautiful from the inside out” When a client is in my chair it’s my goal to focus on enhancing their natural beauty and seeing them blossom with confidence
I’m most proud of when I see the vision in my head perfected on my clients face and their reaction to finished makeup application is priceless for me.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I give all credit to God!!! He has blessed my hands to create amazing work on all various people. I also give credit to my Mother Jeddie Carnes Sr., when I wanted to give up on my dreams, she encouraged me and pushed me to my fullest potential “she’s my biggest cheerleader”. I have to also give credit to my family and my two amazing children Measia and Matthew!!!! Their continued support is relentless, when I have to work /travel late nights from state to state they continued to support me and understand that I’m doing this for them. Lastly, I have two amazing mentors that saw potential in me and encouraged me, provided me with so many gems to be successful in makeup Industry is Nachera “Cherry” Smith and Alex Butler from Georgia!!!!! I’m so grateful to have them in my life.
