Rising Stars: Meet John Jay

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Jay.

Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Columbus, OH and my mom and dad were both musically inclined. I can still hear the static from worn-out needle of the record player. You see, there was hardly a time in our house where there was no music playing. Either my dad or younger sister was on the organ in the basement, my mom on the piano, my older sister playing a cassette tape in her room loudly to drown out the sound of the live music from the basement or me watching the latest gospel choir on VHS in my bedroom. Music is as normal to me as water. In my early 20s, I traveled and recorded with a few gospel artists and in my late 20s that was when I decided to step out on my own and start to record my own music. I released my first solo album back in 2011.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is never an easy road. If it comes easy, it leaves easy. There were numerous struggles but the biggest struggles I’ve dealt with has been inner struggles. You know the thoughts of fear, wondering if I was good enough or if I was wasting my time doing music. That’s the whole purpose behind my new album “The Dreamer’s Session – Live.” It’s my first live album and the overall goal of the album is to help people like me who have big dreams but are also fighting big insecurities. I meet extremely talented people every week. People who if they could just get beyond their fears and self-doubt they could literally be household names. I want my album to motivate them and inspire them to push beyond their negative emotions and take hold of every good thing that is right there just beyond their doubt/fear.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a songwriter, singer, and businessman. I love what I do and I am just now getting to a place in life where I feel like I’m finally enjoying the fruits of my labor. I specialize in gospel music. It’s what I grew up listening to and what I love. That’s why I am so proud about this new album. I get a chance to share with the world my unique take on contemporary gospel and deliver a message that reaches beyond the four walls of the church. I also get a chance to encourage other creatives and that really excites.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
My new album John Jay – “The Dreamer’s Session Live” will be available for pre-order on Sept. 9th, 2022. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to share this musical art with the world. If anyone is reading this and you have big dreams and huge goals, then this album was created specifically for you. I want you to win! I want you to have everything good thing that God has for you!
