Rising Stars: Meet Kayla Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Campbell.

Hi Kayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Photography was a hobby that landed in my lap at an early age. It was the fun thing to do with a point and shoot camera wrapped around my wrist on family trips and with friends. Once I got older, I started working with more professional cameras for studios and tourism attractions doing green screen photos and studio sessions. I wasn’t exactly where I wanted to be long-term, but I enjoyed learning from colleagues and friends about the trade. It wasn’t until a few co-workers encouraged me to step into my own that I started doing sessions and eventually weddings professionally. I know this is exactly where my niche is. I love this industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning curves can get ya when you least expect. It hasn’t been terrible, but I think only unicorns have escaped the pandemic without struggle. It has changed the game for all industries that work with the public. My sweet clients have made the struggles worthwhile, though.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer specializing in the little or big milestone moments, I like to say. It is so much fun to photograph families in their celebratory stages. Life can get a bit heartbreaking, so having the ability to accentuate that joy is such a fun “job”. It really feels more like finding new friends than a job, and for that I am grateful. Out of everything in this industry, I am most proud of how I connect with my clients. Going through life with them and knowing why there is a tear in a graduate’s eye because of the obstacles in the road to the diploma or the small, nervous smile of a groom seeing his bride for the first time. There is nothing better.

What does success mean to you?
Maya Angelou said it best, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
