Rising Stars: Meet Kayla Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Williams

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew how to bake. I took a culinary class when I was in the 12th grade of high school. Today, there is a popular treat called candy grapes, I took a class for that and after that, I was motivated to start my own business and sell my own items. JICTreatsGalore name came from my bestfriend name (Jean Ishmael Charles), who I lost earlier this year. I also donate to his track scholarship fund with some of my profit from my business. Candy grapes have been one of my most popular treats to sell. Along with my strawberry shortcake cupcakes, strawberry shortcake strawberries and my banana/oreo/strawberry pudding. I started my business in the beginning of last month and it has been great ever since. I am very glad and proud that I had the motivation to start my business. It has been really fun and exciting. With all the support I have been getting from friends, family members, neighbors and so many more has made me really proud and to want to keep pushing even harder doing my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make everything all from scratch. The most item that sells the most is my strawberry shortcake cupcakes and strawberry shortcake strawberries. My candy grapes also sell quickly too, there are many ways you can make your grapes but I make mine different, giving a sweet juicy fruity taste. I recently made banana pudding/strawberry banana pudding and I am so proud of myself with that because that was my first time making it and it was really good, I already have people placing orders for pans and jars and it has been selling great ever since.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t get discouraged when making things from scratch. Everything takes time and practice and that’s what it is all about when being a chef. Somethings may not taste the best the first time, but all you can do is keep trying and try different things every time until you find that spark and to not ever give up!
