Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelly Chanelle.
Hi Nelly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since a child, I knew I wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry. I would watch movies and recreate them, study the facial expressions I saw flashing back at me through the tv screen, and write endlessly (mostly drama, romance & poetry).
I purchased my first camera at 18 and started filming music videos. Music videos were my only focus for a while. 8 years later, I loss my father and youngest sister within two weeks time. This experience was extremely traumatizing for me and before I knew it, I was back in my room like a child again, writing endlessly. But this time, it was comedy. Writing comedy sketches became a coping mechanism for me, a way to give back to the world and explore human nature to its deepest depths.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! It has been a pretty bumpy path. Working graveyard shift, honing my craft, growing my video production business, writing scripts, directing, acting, filming and editing can cause some serious burnout. Casting is also a struggle. Dealing with rejection and last minute cancellations can be extremely disappointing, but this is my passion so I continue to gamble.
Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how important it is to be patient, disciplined, resilient, resourceful and goal-oriented. Having mentors, saving your money and mastering your craft is just as important. Trying to accomplish your dreams is like building muscles, you ignore the pain because all you can think about are the great results the exercise will bring you. Those defeating moments will come but I’m a firm believer that if you keep swinging, you’re bound to hit a home run.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my family, creating content, learning, accomplishing my goals, exploring the world and eating a tub of oreo ice cream with cookie dough pieces added on a rainy day makes me most happy. I love bringing people together and tapping into their talents.
I’m not really sure what happiness is for most people but for me, happiness is the world that surrounds me. The sky could have been purple but it’s blue, the grass could have been any color but it’s green. I could have been a dog or a cat but I’m human. Life is truly magical. I guess most people would consider this as having gratitude but in a sense, true happiness is found through gratitude. I’m honestly just grateful for this life experience no matter what happens.
