Rising Stars: Meet Robert Dooley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Dooley.

Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Not Forgotten started with just a group of musicians looking on Craigslist for other players with similar interests. We had all been in local bands in the past but for multiples reasons, we’d all been out of the “game” for a while. For myself I had stopped music to focus on my career at the time, but after a few years of that, I realized I was absolutely miserable without some kind of creative outlet so I decided to put myself out there again. I was super fortunate to connect with our guitarist (and founding member) Leo who sent me an instrumental demo to check. I instantly loved it and wrote/recorded my vocals parts in one night. Then song basically wrote itself and everything I recorded on the demo ended up making it into the final version. It was so easy to write with these guys so I knew we had something special on our hands.

Since our formation, we’ve gone through a few lineup changes, played some shows, and released an EP. We are now in the process of recording a full-length LP and couldn’t be more excited about what we are cooking up.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth is not the way I would describe it (aside from the creative aspect of our work). We took a very long time to decide on a name. Literally years. We’ve also had personal obstacles that come with balancing band life with our other responsibilities (family, work, relationships, etc.). Because of this, it’s taken more time than we anticipated to get everything up and running, but we’ve never been discouraged by any of the problems that have come out way and have always figured out a way to push through and improve.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As far as the band is concerned, my are is all of the vocals as well as a decent amount of the overall composition. What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come personally with production. I knew basically nothing going in but with the help of Leo, I’ve been able to improve my recordings a lot.

As a band, I’m just proud of our continued growth on Spotify. We’ve spent a lot of time reaching out to curators and playlist runners and it has done wonders for organic fanbase growth. In a matter of weeks, we were able to grow our audience nearly 6x its original size all through the partnerships we’ve made both through playlist curators and other musicians in the local scene.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If anything on our original EP is of interest to you then keep an eye out for our future releases. We’ve got a lot in the works and believe what we are recording right now with completely blow out previous work out of the water. We are extremely excited to show everyone what we’ve been working on.
