Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Naughton.
Hi Tanisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business in March 2018 due to my mother. I have always been health-conscious and heavily involved with living a healthy lifestyle and working out. My mother was diagnosed with being diabetic around the fall of 2016 and it changed my outlook on life because I saw how much my mother was suffering. She experienced symptoms such as dizziness & temporary loss of vision. She was on a few medications prescribed via her doctor. I decided to halt my mother from all medications after doing research on holistic healers that found a solution to cure diabetes naturally, as I felt the medications were not helping her. I wanted to help my mother so she can live a healthier and longer lifestyle. I changed her to diet to more of a vegan/pescatarian lifestyle and began making her burdock root tea daily. A little over a year later, her doctor told her she was pre-diabetic after me changing her diet to mainly fruits & vegetables & incorporating burdock root tea.
Once I realized the tea/plant-based diet helped my mother, I decided that I wanted to help others as well. We can heal our bodies with herbs and a plant-based diet holistically. I started my business by selling burdock root, soursop and elderberry tea to help cleanse clients in 2018. The business has grown since then. In September of 2019, I began diving deeper into the vegan lifestyle and wanted to change products I was using in my everyday life to more health-conscious products. I am a huge air freshener lover for my house and car! My dad told me my room always smelled amazing with the oils I would burn. He suggested I make a car air freshener instead of constantly using the ones from the car wash. I later learned the car air fresheners have toxins inside of them. I decided to take his suggestion and make homemade air fresheners for the house and car in an eco-friendly glass bottle.
To date, my business is a wellness online coaching business. I still incorporate the teas and air fresheners but I have a big focus on helping people live a happier, healthier lifestyle by switching to a plant-based diet. I help coach them on how to become vegan and learn to how to cleanse their bodies. You can say the business has come back full circle with me doing 1 on 1 coaching.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all! Selling teas started off great to clients but of course constantly finding clientele can be difficult. Educating people about why eating healthier is not always easy. I am an advocate on the way we eat will affect how we think, act and live our daily lives. However, not everyone has that same vision. I had a hard time being able to get clients to stay consistent with wanting to stay on the wellness path. I also had to learn to meet clients where they are at and help guide them from that point. I was also working a 9-5 when I started the business as a hobby. I did not know I was going to want to be a full-time entrepreneur. It took me a while to get my mindset in the right place so I could switch gears with my approach to my business. There is a lot of work I believe that has to be done on your mental in order to make your business succeed. I am still working everyday to make myself and Ms. Wellness. LLC an amazing company for clients and to make it a business that I will be proud of myself for.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wellness coach that helps people live a happier, healthier lifestyle via a plant-based vegan lifestyle. I specialize in helping people realize that eating healthy with a plant-based whole food diet does not have to be boring or hard. I coach them 1 on 1 with my wellness program on how to cut out processed foods, dairy and meat. I have taken the journey myself of going from eating meat and junk food to now living a whole food plant-based diet. It was the best thing I could ever do.
I am known for my amazing smoothies that I teach clients how to make and fasting. I educate clients how our body is a temple and we have to give it a break from eating sometimes. Just like our bodies need sleep, they also need a break from chewing food. Fasting and detoxing is a great break I teach my clients to do so they can cleanse. By cleansing your body, you are less likely to succumb to diseases and get sick.
I am most proud of that my business focuses on the mind, body and soul. I coach clients to become a better version of themselves overall. Yes, the focus is on eating better via a plant-based diet but I also provide clients with affirmations, a meditation app and a space to be fully present with themselves. Discipline is everything and I support my clients throughout their wellness journey with me. I always wanted my business to be a 360 wholistic view and I am proud to say that I have made that vision come through. You are what you eat, but you are also what you think and what you say. Mindset is everything!
What makes me different is that my mom is why my and I have walked this path myself. To see my mom smiling and being active because of something I did to help her heal makes me happy everyday and I want to help everyone the same way I did my mother. You get a wellness brand that truly focuses on the individual. It’s also a one stop shop where you can get herbs, air fresheners and wellness coaching instead of just one service.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Well, I am still new to Georgia. I am originally from New York and moved to Georgia about three months ago, so I am still taking it all in. I am a huge hiker and outdoor person so I do like that Georgia has a lot of trails that I can walk and go sightseeing. Waterfalls are everything 🙂 The weather is great, not having to deal with snow for a winter was the best thing I ever experienced. Georgia is known for supporting black businesses which is something I absolutely love.
I dislike that if you live on the outskirts of the city it is hard to find healthy options to eat and for grocery shopping. Coming from New York, I am use to stores being close by so that is an adjustment for me.
