Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Seng.
Hi Taryn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young girl, I really loved to draw. My family really pushed my creativity as a child and always gave me creative activities to do. I remember in church, my grandmother would give me a pencil and paper because I would love to listen to the sermon and draw. As I grew up, that never changed I would always be doodling. I used art as an escape in high school during some of the most challenging times in my life. My father got cancer my junior year of high school and ended up passing away my senior year. I got through a lot of my emotions using art, illustrating my feelings on paper. My art teacher became a trusted advisor when it came time to decide what I wanted to do with my life once I graduated high school. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my father or my art teacher. And now I get to illustrate fun characters for others to fall in love with and hopefully have that little escape from reality like the art I created in high school was for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always days where I doubt myself and my abilities. I remember almost not opening up an online store to sell my art. I didn’t think I had enough followers or people supporting my art. But I needed to open up an online store, it really validated me and my abilities to make art and run a business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an illustrator and I usually draw up cute characters and have them put on stationery. So you can find my work on stickers, notepads, bookmarks, and even washi tape. I’m always most proud of the Halloween/spooky collections that I come up with, and that sets me apart from a lot of stationery creators.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was the biggest introvert, still am. I would rather sit at home and read a book or draw than go out with friends. I wasn’t into sports much even though my parents tried for many years to put me into sports. The only thing that did get me out of my shell was marching band in high school, I made a lot of lifetime friends from that.
