Rising Stars: Meet Tavion Tate Guice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavion Tate Guice.

Hi Tavion, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Oakland, California. I was raised in the home with two sisters and my mother. I began performing arts at age six. As a young boy, I used to start up conversations with pleasant strangers on the bus and cable car ride to my grandmother’s house in San Francisco and pretend as if the conversation was a scene in a film. I played sports in my early years in my neighborhood, Brookfield. My favorite sport is basketball. I was pretty good at it during my earlier years into my teenage years. I had a few challenging moments in my teenage years of testing the waters of the streets. Fortunately my interest in performing arts and sports led me to a positive decision to nurture and develop my talents in music and acting. After graduating from High School I Attended College and earned my Bachelor’s in Science in Law.  Thereafter I attended Law School and earned my Juris Doctor. I attended acting classes in Los Angeles, California. I attended Screenplay and Screenwriting classes in Los Angeles, California also. Released several musical singles. Collaborations with platinum-selling artist Too Short and Grammy Award winner rapper Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics from the musical family of Nelly the rapper. My acting credits include the Starring role in the TV Series Evidence of Innocence on TV One in the Mark Schand True Story. Supporting role in the TV series Unraveled on NBC Investigation Discovery Never Say Goodbye True Story. Supporting role in the TV series Fatal Attraction on TV One Lavish Lies True Story. Supporting role on TV One TV series Atlanta Homicide Taken True Story. Supporting role in the TV series Cold Case Files on A&E network. Starring role in the Short Film Community. A Guest starring appearance on the TV series Judge Cristina Perez on Justice Central TV network. My television and film credits can be viewed on the IMDb movie database.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can recall countless nights of staying up late studying several scripts while traveling in between several projects. Traveling to recording studios and shows along with radio promo stops on the road. Rehearsals in hotel rooms and gyms. Early flights, long bus rides. Living out of a suitcase while acting and performing shows. I’ve sacrificed so much throughout my career to arrive at this point.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
First, let me say thank you to the VoyageATL magazine family for following my career and supporting me. It means alot to me to know that I can reach people through my gifts from God in a positive way. Acting and performing shows is my first love. The study of law is my next interest. I’ve always been intrigued with the field of law. With God’s blessing and hard work I want to establish a successful law firm that is designed to help the less fortunate members of society and practice law when I’m not acting or performing. I’m also interested in becoming a law professor in my later years. My message to people that have interests in pursuing dreams in the entertainment field is to first, study your craft diligently, second, put the necessary work into the development of your talents. There is no such thing as a hook up or a connection to something God has total control over, and lastly, build a community that you can grow with to reach your goals.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The very 1st role I was cast in was being filmed in New York. I took a risk in booking a last-minute red-eye flight to make it to the set the very next morning from the other side of the world. I’ve learned so much about stepping out of my comfort zone and tackling the unknown. Fear and Doubt will prevent a person from building a risk tolerance. A person should always continue to learn new things. From the moment I made my mind up in my early teens to be aggressive in my pursuit of exploring my God given talents, I’ve been blessed with many successes as an actor, performer, and legal analyst. As they say in show business, the rest is history……..
