Rising Stars: Meet VaShawn Dixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to VaShawn Dixon. Them and their team share their story with us below:

I am an Independent Film Director, Actor, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer and Filmmaker. I was born in Mobile, Alabama, son of Julius & Pauletta Dixon; I traveled back & forth to New York and other cities and found my passion for film. I graduated from LeFlore High School and went to UAB to major in pharmacy; after three years of college, I resigned from all my courses and started following my passion for film. I started my own Film Production company called Control Overdose Films LLC in 2014 and have since Directed, Produced & Acted in various Short Films, Music Videos, Commercials & Feature Films. My faith in God and the Law of Attraction have synchronized me with the Universe; my self-taught, innovative approach to storytelling and mastery in directing and cinema surpasses the norm and matches that of industry professionals. God has blessed me with a brilliant mind and my passion for film continues to grow as I learn new techniques to pursue my dreams to become one of the most influential film directors and actors of all time. I am an advocate in promoting only positive influences in today’s society for the youth to challenge the next generation of culture with vivid storytelling and original content.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey into filmmaking hasn’t been easy. I transitioned from being an undergrad Pharmacy Major to CEO and Independent Filmmaker, Director, Actor, Cinematographer, Editor and Producer. I study the greats so that I will become great; Trial & Errors, YouTube tutorials, Mistakes on set, Business lessons, Short Films & Documentaries to Motion Pictures .. this journey has been full of surprises and struggles. I embrace those challenges and pursue my dreams of becoming one of the most Influential Film Directors/Actor/Creator/Humanitarians to have ever lived.

My purpose in life fuels my passion in life believe in God. Believe in the Universe. Trust your Process. Dream Big and Dreams do come True! Everything is under control God is in control, so you are in control.

Actor. Film Director. Cinematographer. Producer. Writer. Editor. Visionary Genius & Creator. I have an Independent Movie on AmazonPrime Video entitled GUNNED DOWN (I created, wrote, filmed, directed, edited, casted, produced and composed the entire movie by myself with one camera during Covid-19… Movie Follows the Lifespan of a Gun … Positive Message about Stopping Gun Violence… 1 Gun Traveling Person to Person… story changes as gun moves around.)

I have created and filmed over 50 Advertising Commercials for Local Companies and Businesses in the southern states. I was blessed with the opportunity to film scenes for NBA All-Star & Gold Medalist DeMarcus Cousins’ Documentary on HBO SHOWTIME entitled THE RESURGENCE. What sets me apart from others is my Passion and Awareness & Mastery of the gifts and talents God has blessed me with; Love & Understanding & Clarity—being able to communicate effectively to others my vision and help others find their purpose.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, Family, Time, Love, Friendship and Brotherhood are most important! Energy is real and Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
