We’re so honored to welcome Jamie Kirk back to Voyage — a woman whose story is as powerful as the mission she leads. Jamie has walked through unimaginable loss, yet she’s transformed that lived experience into a beacon of hope for others through A New Beginning Mental Health & Wellness. Her work is rooted in compassion, cultural care, and community healing, and she’s creating the kind of safe spaces so many of us desperately need but rarely talk about. With her official launch event just around the corner, Jamie opened up to us about turning silence into strength, building community through grief, and why healing is not just possible — it’s meant to be shared.
Jamie is also a content partner. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work we do, to sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this.
A New Beginning Mental Health & Wellness was born from your own story of loss and resilience. Can you share what it meant to turn your personal pain into a mission of healing for others?
Turning my personal pain into a mission of healing for others has been both the hardest and most fulfilling journey of my life. When I lost my father at five years old, nobody around me knew how to talk about grief. I grew up in silence, carrying pain that I didn’t have the tools to express. Later, as a young adult, I experienced the unimaginable loss of my daughter, and that pain nearly broke me. But through that darkness, I discovered my purpose.
A New Beginning Mental Health & Wellness was born from that place, a deep desire to make sure no one else has to suffer in silence the way I did. Every workshop, support group, and event we host is rooted in compassion and community, because I know firsthand that healing happens when we feel seen, supported, and safe to tell our stories. Turning pain into purpose gave my loss meaning, and it’s allowed me to give others permission to find hope again.
You’ve said that silence was a big part of your experience growing up. How does A New Beginning help break that silence for others — and create a safe space for open, honest healing?
Silence can be one of the loudest parts of grief and trauma. Growing up, I learned to survive by keeping everything inside, but silence only deepened the pain. At A New Beginning, we work every day to break that cycle by creating spaces where people can speak their truth without fear of judgment.
Our grief support groups, mental health workshops, and community events are designed to start the conversations that so many of us were taught to avoid. We lead with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and lived experience, because we understand that healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in connection. When people walk into our spaces, they’re not just attending an event, they’re being reminded that their voice, their story, and their emotions matter. That’s how we break the silence: by replacing it with community, compassion, and conversation.
Your programs — from Grieving with Grace to SheRoz Brunch — offer such a beautiful mix of connection and empowerment. How do these gatherings help people move from pain to purpose?
Every program we offer, from Grieving with Grace, to the SheRoz Brunch, is built on one simple truth: healing happens in community. When people come together in a safe, loving space, something powerful shifts. They realize they’re not alone in their pain, and that realization becomes the first step toward purpose.
Grieving with Grace allows individuals to process their loss openly while learning tools for emotional healing. The SheRoz Brunch celebrates resilience, it’s where tears meet laughter, where women share their stories, support each other, and rediscover their strength. Each event is intentionally designed to move participants from isolation to empowerment, helping them see that even in their pain, there is power, there is purpose, and there is the possibility of a new beginning.
The upcoming launch event on November 11 sounds deeply meaningful. What can guests expect that evening, and what message do you hope they carry with them afterward?
The A New Beginning launch isn’t just an event, it’s a celebration of hope, healing, and community. Guests can expect an evening filled with connection, inspiration, and joy: delicious tacos, engaging speakers, raffle prizes (including a trip to Las Vegas!), and stories that remind us why mental health and compassion matter so deeply.
But beyond the fun, I want people to walk away feeling seen, valued, and reminded that healing is possible, no matter where they are in their journey. My hope is that every guest leaves knowing they are part of the movement to break the silence, fight stigma, and create a world where mental wellness and grace go hand in hand.
You talk often about “healing through community.” For someone who may be struggling quietly right now, what’s one small step they can take today toward their own new beginning?
The first step toward healing doesn’t have to be big, it just has to be honest. For anyone struggling quietly right now, I would say: start by giving yourself permission to feel. Don’t rush your process, don’t silence your pain. Whether it’s journaling your thoughts, reaching out to a friend, joining a support group, or even taking a deep breath and saying, “I’m not okay, but I want to be”, that’s where healing begins.
At A New Beginning, we believe that community is the bridge between pain and purpose. You don’t have to have it all figured out; you just have to take that one step toward connection. Because sometimes, your new beginning starts the moment you decide you deserve one. You don’t have to have it all figured out; you just have to take one step toward connection. Sometimes, your new beginning starts the moment you decide you deserve one.
