Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Lyons.
Ebony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always enjoyed cooking and can remember my first time helping my grandmother in the kitchen and making my first dish for family dinner. Food, in general, has always been something that I associated with bringing people together and with my father being Jamaican and my Mother being from the south I feel like I had the best of both worlds when it came to cooking. As I got older I started to realize the importance of food and how it affects the body and began to study more about nutrition. Today, I attend the University of Alabama for their food science and nutrition program and provide healthy meal prep options of some of my favorite and new recipes.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
OMG, It has not been smooth sailing! With school full time to become a Registered Dietitian, working full time and starting a business there is a lot on my plate (no pun intended) but it has definitely been rewarding and a huge learning process in general! I knew this was something that I wanted to do and actually stopped myself because of nervousness but now I am extremely happy I took that leap of faith. The main struggle is having to wear all of the hats of the business.
Cook Feed Love – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cook Feed Love is a business that specializes in meal prep! Each week, I create a new menu that customers can order from and choose between three different serving size options. I’m pretty versatile and can work with different dietary restrictions. I do all of the “dirty work” as far as shopping, cooking and packaging the meals. I work with customers that already have their own specific meal plans that they want to follow and I turn those into tasty custom meals for them as well. I am very proud of my company and how far we’ve come in such a short period of time and am excited to see the growth.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has been starting the business, achieving the goals I have set for Cook Feed Love and for myself.
