Building Beauty with Purpose: How Gabrielle Lewis Is Balancing School and Entrepreneurship to Create a Lasting Brand

Gabrielle Lewis is proving that ambition doesn’t have to wait. While still in school, she’s building a beauty brand rooted in discipline, vision, and genuine client care. By focusing on customization, hair health, and meaningful connections, she’s creating more than just styles — she’s delivering confidence and experience. With her sights set on launching a full-service salon that blends luxury with community, Gabrielle’s journey reflects a powerful commitment to growth, consistency, and building something that extends far beyond the chair.

Gabrielle, you’re building your brand while still in school. What has that journey been like balancing both, and what keeps you motivated?
Balancing school and building my brand has required discipline, but it has also been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. I’ve learned how to manage my time, stay organized, and prioritize what truly matters. Being in school while running my business keeps me motivated because I know I’m building both my present and my future at the same time. My vision keeps me going—I’m not just working for today, I’m building something long-term for myself, my family, and my community.

You offer services like custom wigs and braid styles, how do you approach creating looks that make each client feel confident and elevated?
My approach always starts with understanding the client. Every service includes a level of consultation, whether it’s about their lifestyle, hair condition, or the look they’re going for. I focus not just on the style, but also on maintaining the health of their natural hair by incorporating treatments, trims, and protective techniques.

I specialize in customizing looks, from wigs to sew-ins, using high-quality hair such as my Bad Gyal Collection. My goal is to create styles that look natural, feel luxurious, and enhance each client’s overall appearance. I want every client to leave my chair feeling like the best version of themselves.

As you grow in the beauty industry, what have been some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned from working directly with clients?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of communication and trust. Every client comes with different expectations and experiences, so actively listening and educating them is key.

I’ve also learned that consistency builds loyalty. Showing up on time, delivering quality service, and maintaining professionalism creates long-term relationships. This industry is about more than hair—it’s about how you make people feel, and that experience is what keeps clients coming back.

You’re working toward opening your own full-service salon. What is your vision for that space and the experience you want to create?
My vision is to create a full-service salon that offers both luxury and comfort. I plan to have a storefront featuring my hair brand, Bad Gyal Collection, in the front, with private suites in the back for a more personalized experience.

I also want to build a strong team and create opportunities for other beauty professionals to grow. It’s bigger than just a salon—it’s about creating a space for empowerment, community, and high-quality service.

For other aspiring entrepreneurs in the beauty space, what advice would you give about starting and growing a brand?
Start where you are and stay consistent. You don’t need everything to be perfect to begin, but you do need commitment.

Invest in your skills, your brand, and your knowledge of the business side. Build genuine relationships with your clients and always focus on providing value.

Most importantly, stay patient and trust your process. Growth takes time, but consistency will always pay off.
