Through Haul Hints, Miguel Carmona III is on a mission to make hard-earned trucking knowledge more accessible to drivers, owner-operators, and transportation entrepreneurs looking to build sustainable businesses without learning costly lessons the hard way. Recognizing that too many professionals enter the industry without access to practical guidance around operations, strategy, and financial decision-making, he created a platform designed to turn years of industry experience into actionable education delivered at scale. As Haul Hints expands through educational content and an upcoming podcast, Miguel is focused on helping shape a stronger, more informed generation of transportation professionals equipped to build profitable businesses and navigate the evolving trucking industry with confidence.
Miguel, Haul Hints is focused on making trucking knowledge more accessible while helping transportation professionals avoid costly mistakes. What inspired you to launch the platform, and what gaps did you see in the industry that needed to be addressed?
Haul Hints was created because I kept seeing good people make expensive mistakes simply because nobody showed them the playbook. In trucking, information is everywhere, but practical experience is often locked behind years of trial and error.
Our mission is simple: help people gain 10 years of trucking experience in 10 minutes.
I saw new drivers, owner-operators, and small business owners spending thousands of dollars learning lessons that could have been taught in a short conversation or video. We launched Haul Hints to bridge that gap and make trucking knowledge accessible, honest, and actionable.
One thing we say often is: “Experience is expensive—but learning from someone else’s experience is a lot cheaper.”
You often discuss the challenges facing owner-operators, dispatchers, and small fleet owners. What are some of the biggest mistakes you see new trucking business owners make, and how can they avoid them?
The biggest mistake is treating trucking like driving instead of treating it like a business.
Many new owners focus on getting a truck before they understand cash flow, freight rates, insurance costs, or customer acquisition. A truck doesn’t create profit—good business decisions do.
Another common mistake is chasing every load instead of building a strategy. Just because a load is available doesn’t mean it’s profitable.
My advice is simple: know your numbers, build relationships, and focus on consistency over quick money. The operators who survive aren’t always the smartest or the luckiest—they’re usually the most disciplined.
Short-form educational content has become a major part of how people learn today. How is content creation changing the way trucking professionals gain knowledge and stay informed?
The days of waiting years to learn everything through experience are over.
Today, a driver can learn about compliance, load boards, equipment, freight markets, and business strategy while sitting at a shipper or during a lunch break. Educational content has become a form of mentorship at scale.
What’s exciting is that trucking knowledge is no longer limited to who you know. If you’re willing to learn, experts are sharing lessons every day through videos, podcasts, and online communities.
The transportation industry is becoming more connected, and that’s creating smarter business owners across the board.
You’re preparing to launch the Haul Hints Podcast and connect with experts from across the transportation industry. What are your goals for the show, and what types of conversations are you most excited to bring to your audience?
The goal of the Haul Hints Podcast is to pull back the curtain on the transportation industry and give people access to conversations they normally wouldn’t hear.
We’re bringing together owner-operators, fleet owners, dispatchers, brokers, recruiters, technology companies, and industry leaders to share real stories and practical advice.
I’m most excited about the conversations that challenge assumptions and expose opportunities people may be overlooking.
We don’t just want guests with titles—we want guests with lessons.
If someone can help our audience make more money, avoid mistakes, or think differently about their future in transportation, that’s a conversation worth having.
As Haul Hints continues to grow, what is your long-term vision for the platform, and how do you hope it impacts the next generation of transportation professionals?
Our vision is to become one of the most trusted educational brands in transportation.
We want Haul Hints to be the first place people turn when they need answers, guidance, or industry insight—whether they’re thinking about getting a CDL, launching a trucking company, or scaling a fleet.
Most importantly, we want to help create a stronger next generation of transportation professionals.
The trucking industry has changed countless lives, including mine. If Haul Hints can help someone avoid a costly mistake, start a successful business, or create a better future for their family, then we’re doing exactly what we set out to do.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: help people move freight, build businesses, and create opportunities—without learning every lesson the hard way.
