Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenice Borges.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A shy little girl from Queens, New York with a heart to make a difference in the world. Where I am today is truly a “God thing.” I have always had a heart for people and doing God’s work, even when I was a young girl. Did I ever see myself pastoring a church, writing books, running a non-profit organization? Absolutely not! When you ask most kids what they want to be, they typical respond with teacher, nurse, fireman and police officer. However, I was into basketball and desired to possibly play overseas. That dream changed quickly.
I took a liking to technology and computers and decided to go to DeVRY University right after high school in 1999. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in 2002 in Business Administration, my concentration was Business Information System. I worked for the Boys and Girls Club and then found a job in my industry. While I was successful, I felt like something was missing. I knew I had a niche for helping people, and sitting behind a desk hearing others complain about things was not the business for me.
I quit my tech job in 2010 to focus on writing my first book and do work on some ministry endeavors. I completed and self-published my first book “Young and Called and managed to write, direct, and produce a stage play called “Taken.” During this time, I did a lot of self-reflection and tried to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. If it was helping others to succeed, to encourage others, I was down for it.
I worked with the youth ministry in my local church for years but began to feel a pulling away. I was in a wilderness place, not sure where I belonged and what I was supposed to be doing. My money started to dry up, so I had to go back to work. I worked part-time for a company while doing some youth ministry in Phoenix City Alabama. This lasted for about two years, all during this time, I was still trying to pursue the vision in my heart. In April of 2013, the Lord and I began to have conversation about the ways that I could enlarge and expand my territory. As I began to make my request and heart’s desire known to God, He in return began to reveal and unravel the different dimensions and dynamics of JSB Vision Center. In November 2013 God began to give specific details. In return, I began to do as the word says according to Habakkuk 2:2, “write the vision and make it plain.”
In doing this, the Lord began to send the tools and people I would need to help launch and support the vision. I was under the impression that it would take approximately two years to launch, but it was nine months it was launch time. That was just the tip of the iceberg. In July of 2017, I launched Vision Center Christian Church in Loganville, GA. We are a small church, just plowing to fulfill the vision that has been given to us. Through prayer, commitment and the support of close family and friends, I am where I am today. This is not the end, just the beginning. My motto is, “Vision is Life!”. As long as you have vision, you have more reason to live and push forward.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road at all. I wish it was; yet, at the same time, I would not change a thing. Our character is built during the difficult moments of our lives. The biggest challenge on my journey has been me. Not feeling worthy, not feeling smart enough, doubt and overall fear of failing. These are some emotions that many who are stepping out on faith and pursuing their dreams have to deal with. But I have learned that you have to be willing to fail to succeed. I have also learned that you cannot compare your success to anyone else’s journey. If you are willing to go the distance you will be in awe at what is on the other side. The process to success is hard work, but it is necessary to build us into better leaders, entrepreneurs, coaches, pastors, or whatever the calling is.
Please tell us about Vision Center Christian Church (VC3).
Vision Center Christian church has a simple vision. Pursue God, train disciples. The Outreach department (JSB Vision Center) is the heartbeat of our church; Through programs like “Bags of Love” where we provided toiletries, socks, undergarments and such the like to our homeless population. We have “A-dopt-a-Hotel” outreach geared to feeding those during the Holiday Season who don’t have the means to provide for themselves. Along with our yearly “Winter Drive,” providing coats, blankets, and bags of love to those who are struggling to provide from themselves and families. JSB Vision Center is a faith-based organization. Our programs meet the needs of the community by offering free and cost-effective programs for the working middle class, struggling and impoverish. Our support extends beyond the USA to Africa, where we have helped to install a water filtration plant to provide clean water to a community of 10,000 people in Zimbabwe, Africa.
Future plans are to assist a village in Buhera, Africa with drilling a borehole with suitable solar pumps and inverters to provide clean water solutions. As well as creating agriculture projects, irrigation projects and training to grow vegetables, using organic intercropping methods and deep trenching to ensure high crop yields. We are seeking to expand our resources by partnering and gaining sponsorships with other charitable agencies and businesses. What I am most proud of is that our church and organization lives by the motto “Real People Helping Real People” and this is the heartbeat of our ministry.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel that our city is a good place to start a business. With a growing population, and statistically Gwinnett County is home to 263 “homeless persons” and 107 “imminently homeless” people. There is a need. I would recommend that anyone staring out, do the demographic research for the area they are targeting and see if like services are offered. It is always important to do statistical research before launching. It all depends on your product, your vision and your desired outcome.
