Meet Larry Chen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Chen.

Larry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started shooting pictures around 2004 of random cars that I liked and I started paying my way to travel the world to visit car related events as well as races. Fast forward a few years and I find myself starting to make a little income from shooting pictures of racing. In 2011 I finally got my big break as I was working for Need for Speed full time as an automotive photographer. Today we publish our work on the Hoonigan Autofocus YouTube channel.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitively been tough to get where I am today. At one point, when I was going to a week long event, I would have to sleep on the floor of a different hotel room every single night because I could not afford my room. I used to have to help trailer the race cars to the events so that I can make it there. I could not afford to buy a plane ticket, rent a car and get a hotel room.

Larry Chen Photo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a group of creatives that specialize in content creation surrounding cars and automotive culture. We shoot still photos and video. We often work at Road Atlanta in Braselton. The beautiful thing for us is that we don’t have to focus on editorial photo and videography. We can shoot commercially as well for large companies like Toyota, Ford, and Nissan.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me, is being able to push your absolute hardest and love every moment of it. We love what we do. I enjoy going to work every day as I am a big car culture enthusiast, and to be able to spend my time photographing them makes it all worth it.
