Rising Stars: Meet Megaa Lizz

Hi Megaa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started off acting when I was 12, doing milk commercials. At 15, I was featured in a robin givens movie and was modeling for an agency. At 16, I started becoming a wild child and fell back from all productive things. I got more involved with the streets and fighting. I dropped out of high school and just knew I had to make a way of my own. So at 18, I started doing music videos and more urban modeling. I was consistently getting booked for about two years. Even with being booked and busy I peeped the game and didn’t like how things were being ran so I decided to create my own agency, “Megaa Models,” and I have been building that for about six months now and it’s flourishing very well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, I dropped out of school and my focus was elsewhere. So trying to rebrand my myself was harder mentally than physically. I had run-ins with a lot of bad business, got scammed, got into inappropriate altercations defending myself. And lost a lot of money. I also deal with a lot of health issues so that is always on the back burner.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I honestly would say I specialize in helping people. Even with my agency, a lot of the ladies in my database came from being screwed over so now I just try to give them the knowledge to not make the same mistake. I’m known for my modeling in videos with major artists like Boosie, Lil Durk, 21 savage, Coca Vango, Blac Youngsta, etc. I am also known for building my own lane that not only our ladies in booking positions but also just a women empowerment movement. Every lady that really knows me on my team can tell you I’m all about them. I do whatever I can to make them feel special and comfortable. That’s the difference between these other agents and me, I’m not in it for the money because no matter what I do, money is always flowing. But I’m in it to genuinely see women win, and not in a shameful, degrading way. I tell all my ladies if they ever need anything or have questions, they can always come to me and I will be honest. A lot of these agents sugar-coat and don’t tell them what they need to hear. Just what they want to hear and that is far from my motto that’s why I have the respect I do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have actually had the same mentor since freshman year. Even when I left school, she was always there for me. But on this industry, networking can get you indoors that paperwork can’t. It’s not always what you know it’s who you know and who knows you. Once you have reached a certain level, you must conduct yourself as if you finally know your worth because you will find it. I was a real homebody until I got active in this Industry, until I realized, “out of sight, out of mind.”
