Today we’d like to introduce you to RTX Peso.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts in Fulton County, I suppose. I was born at Northside Hospital. I always felt like that was the first thing that set me apart because everyone was always so happy to be born at Grady. I’ve always been the person who thought and questioned the things that people were to scared to or thought it was too lame to do so. I started really writing music in 2011 when I was thirteen. I was going through a tough time by myself, trying to understand the loss of someone close to me and not really feeling comfortable talking about it to anyone. It got so bad that I started thinking about taking my own life because of how alone I felt until one day I tried.
Luckily my friend at the time happened to walk by the bathroom and see what I was doing and stopped me. I was grounded at the time so I wasn’t even supposed to be there. While I was grounded, the only thing my mom let me use was my old iPod. That’s when the hunger for music arrived because I started listening heavily to Kid Cudi and Childish Gambino. They helped me get through so much with music and ever since then, I’ve felt that I could do the same for others going through rough patches in their lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As far back as I could remember, I’ve always had to deal with more serious matters growing up. The most notable situation is the illness that currently runs in my family, which is Huntington’s Disease. It’s a degenerative disease that ruins anything from your ability to speak, your motor functions, your memory, etc. It can be passed down to your kids but it could also not. It’s just a 50/50 toss-up every time and typically, if you have two kids, only one of them could end up getting it but the possibility of them both getting it is rare. My grandmother had it for my whole life up until she passed away in 2015. It’s not a very common disease but it’s one of the diseases in the list that don’t have cures.
The only thing you can do is treat it in different ways but even then, it doesn’t help too much. It tore me up because of all the things she had to miss out on in our family due to her having to stay in a nursing home for about ten years. I remember not wanting to go to my high school graduation because she couldn’t be there. Now, fast forward to 2021 and it seems that my mom could possibly have it due to the state of her health but we’re not 100% positive on it as of now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician to say the least. I rap, sing, produce and play a little bit of guitar. I make music for the kids that felt and feel alone. The kids that had to stay home alone and sleep with a knife under their pillow at a young age because they grew up in a single-parent household and that parent had to work multiple jobs to take care of them. I make music for the kids that feel and felt so alone that they thought about taking their own lives. My music is to show that they are not actually alone because I’m there for them in spirit and I know that they can overcome any problems they may face.
My music has so many moods that come with it. There’s always a song for everyone no matter your musical taste. I’m most proud of my versatility when it comes to making music. I try my best to always go the unconventional route because everyone else seems scared or too impatient to take it. Once that happens, the lane that they ran away from becomes mine and I get to bend it to my own will. I go into all of my songs and projects, looking to build a world for the listener to live in for a bit. Even if it’s just for a small moment. That’s also what sets me apart from other artists, I believe.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I have a new EP titled ‘Canvas’ just released last Friday, January, 29th. It is available on all streaming platforms as well. And an album titled ‘GHOUL’ coming out later on in the year. In the meantime, I dropped my album titled ‘Vacuum Sealed’ back in September that you can stream on all major platforms right now. If you stream music on Spotify, I kindly as for you to follow me and donate to my fundraising pick on my page. A good portion of the proceeds go to my to support my music but I also make sure that the rest of the proceeds go towards Huntington Disease research in hopes to finding a cure or better treatments. To my fans and loved ones, thank you for your continued support! For those that are new to the journey, strap in because it’s nothing but up from here!
