Today we’d like to introduce you to David Frazier.
Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Lanett, Alabama, a very small town on the Alabama, Georgia line about an hour south of Atlanta airport. After graduating high school, I attended Auburn University and majored in Architecture. While at Auburn, I was able to participate in the International Studies program based in Rome, intern in New York for Meyer Davis, and complete my thesis project with the acclaimed Rural Studio. When I finished my thesis, I knew I wanted to start my career in New York. I landed back at Meyer Davis and arrived just as the design industry was coming back from the recession. Will Meyer, founder and principal of Meyer Davis, was a great mentor and I was given a ton of responsibility at a young age – managing and leading projects of various sizes across the globe. After several years working there, I decided I wanted to work on smaller-scale, residential projects. After spending a year as studio director for a small, boutique interior design firm, I struck out on my own with a few clients and exciting projects. That was four years ago. Currently, we have completed projects across the Southeast, New York City, the Hamptons, Napa Valley, Colorado, and Connecticut. Working for myself has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been challenges. The biggest challenge that I face now is work-life balance. Being an entrepreneur is rewarding and extremely demanding. If I am not working, nothing gets done – at least, that is the mentality I have. I will say I have encountered so much help and encouragement from others who have done this before me. Without them, it would have been much more challenging.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are an interior focused architectural and design practice. My background is in Architecture so we bring that expertise and knowledge to the table along with an understanding of scale, structure, and design that enhances our end product and makes the process more streamlined.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance and drive.
