Conversations with Chelsie Jayy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsie Jayy.

Hi Chelsie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am small-town girl with big city dreams. I am originally from Mississippi. My love for makeup began at about age 14. I would always do my brows before I went to school and it took off from there. I then began to watch Youtube videos religiously just to master my craft. Now here I am 11 years later, still nurturing my passion. I am currently a full-time makeup artist/influencer. I am so happy that I get to do what I love everyday along with growing as a creative overall.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, all roads have a few potholes, bumps, and roadblocks. However, there’s always a way around those obstacles. After graduating from college, I decided to pursue a career in banking. I quickly realized that I was not following passion. I then took a leap of faith and I have not looked back since. My biggest challenge through it all had to be mastering my patience. Being a new makeup artist/influencer in a city where there are thousands of other talented individuals that do what I do initially posed as a challenge for me. I had to constantly remind myself that my season is coming and not to give up. It is so important to me that I remain consistent no matter if I receive five likes on a post or 5,000. The goal is to stay true to myself at the same time remembering why I am doing this in the first place.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a full-time influencer/makeup artist. On my platform, I specialize in beauty-related content. This can include a bomb-cut crease look or an everyday makeup look. I am also transitioning into fashion content as well. I am most known for my makeup looks. I try to make my makeup as clean and precise as possible. I think that is what sets me apart from anyone else. I try to stay in my own lane. I am most proud of my resilience. I always find a way to push through and refocus.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned how important it is not to take anything for granted. It is so important to appreciate the little things.
