Today we’d like to introduce you to Yabi Demissie.
Yabi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I feel like I’ve been doing photography since I had a cellphone back in my teen years! I was always the one taking pictures of my friends because I had that “angle” to make the picture pop lol. Then, going into 2019, my aunt suggested I make the investment and just purchase a starter kit camera since I really did want to see if I could take photography to another level. Then it was all history. 🙂 I still have a long way to go, but photography and helping people find their light through pictures has been a passion of mine and I can wait to see where it takes me. Aside from playing basketball and running, I finally found a hobby that can bring me joy, money and connections!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I won’t lie, I’ve struggled with being inconsistent when it has come to learning the ropes of photography. Most people don’t realize that taking pictures is not just clicking a button. There are so many details and things within the camera and editing that go into creating the best pictures aside from the amazing people in front of the camera. With so many other things going on in life and in the world, things can get distracting, but I am working on making more time to invest in this hobby that brought so much joy to me! I think one other struggle of mine has been comparison of others as well, but I continue to remind myself that I am ME! I have my own style of taking pictures and I am improving every single time I practice and invest into photography. I can’t compare my Chapter 3 to someone’s Chapter 9. I will continue doing the work I need to do to become a better photographer and support others along the way!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in portrait photography! I am known for working to help others embrace the light they bring into life through pictures. These are moments they will forever cherish and I will continue to work hard to improve my skills and bring my client’s joy! I am most proud of investing into my photography. I’ve never really spent money like that on myself for something I was passionate about or a hobby I got into but this was different. In 2020, I took it up another level and purchased a new lens, received my LLC, and created my new domain for my new website coming soon! I am so excited for what’s to come in year 2021. More visions, more learning, more clients, more creations, and more light!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Atlanta, Georgia is an amazing place to live. The people, the food, the life, the nature, etc. The part I love about Atlanta the most is that there is always something to do or somewhere to go. Even with COVID-19, I’ve still been able to go outside and walk safely at parks, trails and lakes! The thing I like least about Atlanta is definitely the traffic. I still will never understand how I could be sitting in traffic on a Sunday, lol.
