Hidden Gems: Meet Anissa Jones of Total Health Chiropractic and Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anissa Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Dr. Nissa, Nationally recognized Chiropractor, Clinical Director of Total Health Chiropractic, Business Consultant, and Coach. I help Chiropractors maximize their time by giving them the blueprint to successfully open their own practice without making costly mistakes. Through my proven systems, coaching plan, and one on one support, you will successfully launch your business in three months. As a small child, I had the good fortune of growing up with my grandmother. She was a strong, prayerful warrior capable of doing anything. My grandmother also was my first investor. She gave me the opportunity to create my first company in high school. It was a mobile candy store. We didn’t have much, but she gave me and my sister $50 and we went shopping for candy. By the time the year was over, I had turned $50 to $5000. My grandmother also was a believer and practitioner of homeopathic methods and remedies. I would watch her in amazement as she would “whip up” concoctions in the kitchen that would treat everything from a sore throat to a cut on your foot. My grandmother would say, “we are born with everything our body needs to heal itself, sometimes it just needs a little help”. This sparked my interest in becoming a holistic Doctor. Imagine my surprise when the very same thing my grandmother said to me was echoed to me when I started my education journey in Chiropractic school. This was a full-circle moment for me. I graduated from Life University Chiropractic school top of my class. I was one of three black students to graduate. I was full of hope and my grandmother was there to see it all. That was the proudest moment in my life. My grandmother seeing me become a doctor and no longer being a “professional student” as she would call me. She thought I’d never finished school.

On that day, I presented her with a PHT (putting her through) degree. You would have thought that I had given her a million dollars. She was so proud. I opened my practice where I was the first African American to practice in my city. I became the leading Chiropractic facility in Macon, GA, and was even a Black History moment. Can I tell you something that I am not proud of, it was unthinkable? I lost my million-dollar practice. I allowed another person to take everything from me that I had worked so hard for. I can still smell the trash from the alley as I was packing up the remainder of my things that were left behind. It was a hot summer day and two people that I hardly knew were helping me salvage the remnants of my practice. I cried the entire time. All I could hear was my grandmother telling me that I deserved better and that I was better than this. So, what do you do when you’ve reached rock bottom, you start from scratch. I began rebuilding my practice. I knew that this time, I wanted to create a foolproof system and plan that would get me back on million-dollar profits in a shorter period of time. It has been five years since my grandmother has passed, but I still receive wisdom and guidance from her daily. She was my first teacher. I am here because my grandmother saved my life. Now I get to save other chiropractors from going down the same rabbit hole that I did. I get to help you successfully open up your own practice without making costly mistakes. This way your goal each day is to make sure that you create a hassle-free environment where your patients can concentrate solely on getting “totally fuzed” about their healthcare.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worthwhile is never easy and is filled with challenges and rewards. As an entrepreneur, I have learned how to overcome FEAR (false energy appearing as real) and FAIL (find another initiative to launch). These two cornerstones are the reasons why I continue to pivot my business and do what it takes to move forward. One of the main struggles that I had was funding my business. I had no collateral and no proof of success as a businesswoman. I believe this is one of the main concerns for most new businesses. I learned early the art of negotiating terms of contracts, lease agreements, and how to finance equipment to get started. Another struggle was trusting others to help me build my business. This was a pain point initially. Starting a business is like birthing a baby; you can’t let everyone take care of it. I had to learn quickly that if I wanted to succeed, I had to trust the team that I was building. The road to success has been educational, and I have learned from every jagged pathway about myself and my decisions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Total Health Chiropractic and Wellness Center?

At your first visit to Total Health Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Dr. Nissa will explain how chiropractic care works and give you a full evaluation to see if our chiropractic solutions are a good fit to address your needs. Dr. Nissa uses chiropractic care to improve the health and wellness in all areas of patient’s lives, whether they are having problems with back pain or neck pain or just want to start feeling better when they wake up in the morning.

Dr. Nissa takes a “whole person” approach in chiropractic care, which means looking for the underlying causes of disease, discomfort, and pain, as opposed to just treating the symptoms. Many seemingly unrelated symptoms often arise from imbalances in the spinal column, and Dr. Nissa will be able to determine the root of the pain and create a personalized chiropractic and wellness plan to suit each patient’s individual needs. Under the supervision and care of our caring and skilled chiropractor, patients report higher functioning in all areas of their lives. Mission is to educate, empower, and adjust as many people as possible to optimal health through chiropractic care in an environment that encourages wellness and tranquility.

Dr. Nissa creates a peaceful, pleasant, and buoyant environment that also makes her patients and those new to the holistic medicine experience comfortable and at ease. Dr. Nissa is also an elected official where she serves as the District 1 member of the Macon Water Authority. She serves as the chair of the Personnel Committee and continues to make sure that citizens of Macon-Bibb receive the best rates for water services and assist with bringing economic development efforts to the community.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Mentorship and a business coach is vital to the overall success of a sustainable business. Having someone that has already traveled the terrain of the business goals and operations that you are trying to obtain is invaluable to your organizational growth. As my mother would say, “why would you bump your head on a brick wall if you don’t have to.” In my journey, I have had the pleasure of having different mentors for different areas of my practice. I believe that you should diversify your mentors so that you can have someone pour into you at their will house. What has worked well with me is being transparent and authentic about my situation so that I can get honest input from both my coach and mentor. This is not the time to be fake or phony. Tell the truth so you can get the advice that you asked for.
