Life & Work with Jasmine Mims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Mims.

Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
“CraftinWithMimz”, started in Huntsville, Alabama in 2016. I almost named my business “A Teacher’s Side Hustle” but under further consideration I knew everyone knew me as Mimz and I had a love for crafting. I was asked by one of my best friend’s mom to make her a basket for graduation. Little did I know, I would become a booked individual just by making baskets for various holidays and personal needs. My mom would also get me to make items for her staff as a token of appreciation at least twice a year. From there I created baskets for presentations, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and so much more. I always knew I had a passion for crafting so I started to make custom picture frames, birthday pins, and In Loving Memory Pins and would travel back home to Birmingham to deliver orders almost every other weekend. After moving back to Birmingham in 2017, I ventured off to adding Treat Tables and Ice Cream Bars to my list of items provided. In adding treat tables I have expanded to making candied apples, providing custom backdrops with the help of my graphic designer Trey (EscapeGFX), providing balloons in which is in very high demand, and chocolate covered everything (pineapples, apples, strawberries, popcorn, pretzels, and so much more. I have teamed with some great event coordinators such as Brianna Janae Glam Studio and Event Center and Highly Ranked Enterprises to provide balloon garlands, columns and or rings. I love a great tag in especially with great decor with my balloon jobs. I find a peace in seeing people enjoy their items ordered, balloon garlands, and treat tables booked.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In running any business I can say the lessons learned are not always easy lessons. There are days when you have to please your customers no matter how tired, frustrated, or unease you may become. I have learned that in every obstacle there is still a goal that has to be met. No matter the obstacle you still have to push. My mission with CraftinWithMimz, is “To provide each customer with an unprecedented product, service, and experience.” There are times that fixing issues come with a business lost and with that you find some form of peace in knowing that you did all you could do to rectify the error from your business

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first a full time teacher who loves to craft as stated before, crafting is a form of peace for myself. CraftinWithMimz offers a variety of items such as: treat tables, ice cream bars, balloon garlands/columns, chocolate covered treats, cheesecake stuffed apples/ strawberries, personalized fans, baskets, letter boxes, birthday pins, and much more. I would have to say currently I am best known for my treat tables, cheesecake stuffed items, and balloons. I never thought that adding cheesecake to strawberries and apples or adding balloon garlands to special events during the COVID Pandemic would have such a huge impact on my business as of now. I learned to do so much during the pandemic and it truly paid off! I am currently most proud of my ability to be a full time teacher, current graduate student, and a business owner while maintaining a social life. It is not easy, but with the help of my family and friends it is all so possibly and rewarding every time I hit a new goal!

How do you think about happiness?
First, working and mentoring my church babies is where I learned my creative side. I always knew my abilities as it relates to planning and carrying out tasks, but working with those kids allowed me to identify my passion as well as calling to craft/work with children. Spending time with those babies is one of my many happy places. I started doing my treat tables with my church for our annual Youth Day! Second, teaching students whom look just like me and even more in the same district that I graduated from (Fairfield City Schools) makes me extremely happy as well. In teaching I have the ability to work and be creative with my lesson plans, as I love adding the creative twist to teaching. I am a kinesthetic learner, therefore my ability to be hands on with crafting allows me to be free with creativity as well as making modifications and accommodations for all my students.. Lastly, Spending time with family and friends. I am an extremely bold extrovert; I enjoy hosting gatherings for my family and friends. My key events are brunch activities. I am the friend that, if I call my friends or family to say I am cooking they are truly coming to get a plate. I enjoy spending time with those that mean the most to me. Being an only child made me love to be around people due to me not having my own brothers or sisters in the house growing up. I have step siblings, however it’s a difference when you actually get to grow up with someone, therefore now I love to have company and entertain love ones. I think after saying all of this I love most working with my hands, they are my gift and I am truly humble to have them to work to the best of my abilities.
