Conversations with Derrick Frazier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Frazier.

Derrick Frazier is an empowering speaker whose astonishing list of successes was established with faith, courage, and determined action. His ‘Bold’ presentation has inspired and entertained audiences of diverse backgrounds all over the southeast. As a drug-addicted teenager in foster care, struggling with suicidal thoughts, his quest for understanding and acceptance became more of a series of bad decisions and wrong choices. Seeing no pleasant ending for his situation, he dropped out of high school and existed in survival mode.

Now Mr. Frazier has made it his mission to share with young people his journey from abandonment to hope and forgiveness to effectively guide them to healthy choices and encouraging life habits which lead to total well-being. In this presentation, Mr. Frazier demonstrates there is always hope no matter how deep the wounds and he uses his first-hand understanding to motivate and inspire audiences to re-write their own stories and to be victorious in the face of any adversity. Audience members will learn how focused, bold thinking, and determination can lay the structure to achieve great things no matter your advantage or disadvantage. Whether it’s personal development, professional advancement, or increased effectiveness within your organization, don’t miss the opportunity to hear this amazing story – sow the seeds of success and reap the rewards of bold thinking.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, at first, I thought it would be a smooth road but as I continued through life, I realized that this was not going to be easy nor smooth. I believe that when your heart is in the right place and you understand your purpose in life, it will be a dog fight, especially when you start talking about making a difference. I still consider myself a young adult. I’m tempted everyday I do have things I wrestle with and that I know I to get together. However, I understand that it’s part of life, and all I can do is pray about it and keep going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the author of my two published books, something that I never would’ve thought I would accomplish. My first one is called VICTIM TO VICTOR. It’s an autobiography about my childhood growing up and some other challenges I have face along the way. But I am most proud of my recent book, AFFIRMATIONS TO THE GAME OF LIFE. It is a book for kids and teens. It includes black, white, and Latino cartoon characters in the book illustrated by artist: Donald Benedict all the way from Nigeria. The culture in Nigeria is different from the U.S, so I had to consistently send him pictures that looked like our youth in the U.S.

We went through a lot and it cost a lot. But I was determined to get it done for the people for every letter of the alphabet. There is a positive affirmation along with a few inspirational sentences that explain the affirmation. I just wanted to make a book that look like black kids and black teens. I wanted something kids in the hood and in the foster care system and youth around the world could relate to. If they can relate to the pictures, there’s a better chance at them reading the words. If you go to your local book stores or shopping stores, you don’t see many books that look like today’s teens and kids. What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about people, especially youth and young adults. I care about our young folks. I know what it’s like not to have that relationship with your parents. Also just because they may be there doesn’t mean they understand you every child is different. I think nowadays its all the money and every man for themselves but what about these teens and kids and young adults. I am a writer, and I have some more things that I want to publish but more than that, I enjoy speaking to kids, teens, and young adults. They need to know that someone out there loves you cares about you, and if God them through, he can do the same for you, and you can be you while fulfilling your purpose.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Not really. Thankfully Covid-19 didn’t have an effect on me other than schools not letting people to the schools until things get better. I published my second book during this crisis. It has been going well for me.
