Today we’d like to introduce you to Veanne Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It started with a vision. My husband, Tim Smith and I founded SOLTECH in 1998. We envisioned a company that would excel in providing pristine custom software solutions for businesses seeking an alternative to larger expensive consulting firms. Big enough to meet a wide variety of client needs, but small enough to be fast and nimble through a structured and consistent process. We combined this with innovative business expertise, technical proficiency, and exceptional project management skills, and found a winning combination to launch SOLTECH.
Today SOLTECH is Atlanta’s premiere software development and IT staffing firm offering services from high-level IT strategy, to building mobile and web applications, to the recruitment and placement of top technology talent. Whether your company is building a vision from the ground up or needing support for an existing project, our customized approach ensures we provide the best solution for your business. Treating each and every client as a partner, we work together throughout the process to learn your business and create a custom solution that best suits your needs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the 22 years that we have been in business, we have lived through and survived as a company many different economic cycles. We have learned that anything can change and affect business and being able to pivot as a company during these challenging and changing times can make all the difference in continued success. Fortunately for us at SOLTECH, we have two strong service offerings: IT staffing and custom software development. These have allowed us to remain in business regardless of how the economy is going.
Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, and what are you known for etc.
We are problem solvers and innovators, driven by our passion to see our client’s growth through impactful technology. We help organizations build custom software and find the IT staffing talent that they need.
Many people don’t understand how you build custom software, so I like to use an analogy to help people understand it. I liken it to building a custom home. You can buy two kinds of homes, one that is already built or, you can go hire a company to build a custom home. Although software can be more complex, much like building a custom home, SOLTECH builds custom software across all industries, basically solving problems and helping companies grow through custom, technology enabled solutions.
Whether companies know it or not, they are a tech company. Regardless if you are in manufacturing, distribution, or hospitality or healthcare, at the core you are a tech company because there is no one working today without tech. Which is a beautiful thing for us at SOLTECH because that is where we really shine.
On the IT staffing side, we offer a variety of IT staffing options to our clients. Our goal is to help you quickly add known, skilled professionals to your internally managed projects, so you can mitigate the risk of a new team member while hitting your deadlines. Our IT staffing services include Contract Labor, Contract to Hire, Direct Hire, and Managed Staffing. If you need to grow your existing IT team or need particular technical expertise, we can find you the skilled IT resources that your project needs.
What does success mean to you?
At an individual level, I would describe Success as the state of achieving a desired or planned goal. But it’s much bigger than that when you experience Success as part of a team. It’s that feeling of gratification and euphoria you experience when you and your fellow employees know you have given it nothing less than your best, and that together, you complete a challenging project on time and on budget and to the absolute delight of your customer.
Based on my experience, teams are more likely to be successful when goals are clearly defined and measurable, there is an established process and defined best practices, a shared culture exists where diversity of thought and supporting one another is embraced, frequent and honest communication happens, and strong leadership exists to encourage everyone’s BEST efforts and engagement.
Day to day, we are challenged to solve technology problems and build complex systems on behalf of our clients. We measure success from a client perspective by asking for their feedback weekly during our project engagements, and at the conclusion of our projects by requesting that they provide us with a formal review. In order to be truly successful, we also know the importance of providing our employees with opportunities to grow and learn, and creating an environment where it’s ok to fail and where they are recognized by their peers and leaders for jobs well done. That feeling of success on behalf of your employees comes when your employee Net Promotor Score improves and when you are recognized by outside organizations as a top company to work for.
Our ultimate measure of success here at SOLTECH is when we can point to examples where we have made the world a better place by bringing to life innovative software solutions that make our lives easier, safer, healthier, and more productive.
