Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Bray.
Ashton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Ashton Conley Bray; my mom went into the hospital the end of June 2020; she was diagnosed with Covid-19; my mom passed away on July 11, 2020. My uncle went into the hospital on July 4, 2020; he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and passed away on July 18, 2020. My great uncle was diagnosed with Covid-19 and passed away on August 4, 2020. I live with my nana Tracey Conley Bray and she used writing as a mean to help me express my grief. When we were done, my nana asked me what did I want to do with my words and I told her that I wanted to write a book to help other children who have lost their mother. My nana helped me and we got my book published and I have received some good reviews on Amazon. I miss my mommy and my uncle a lot, but writing the book has helped me because it gave me a voice an outlet to share my feelings. I am very thankful that I was able to write this book.
Ashton, we are so terribly sorry about these huge losses. You are very luck to have a loving nana. With the book writing process, have there been some challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge was being open and honest about my feelings and allowing them to be captured into a book for others to read.
Thanks for sharing that. Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about yourself?
I am ten years old and I am in the fourth grade. I attend public school with Atlanta Public School. I was nine years old when I lost my mother in July and I wrote and published my book in December 2020. My book is written in my own voice and from my own perspective, which other children will be able to relate too. I just would like to thank all of the people who have supported me by buying my book and leaving a review on amazon.com.
