Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Sheffield.
Hi Elijah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Elijah Sheffield. I’m 15 years old. I was born and raised here in Atlanta, GA. I’m an honor student and have been since Elementary. I love Technology and Games! I aspire to one day attend Clark Atlanta University or the University Of Georgia, so I try hard to keep my GPA up! My mother gave birth to me at the age of 15. As a single parent, she had to put a lot of her dreams on hold to raise me. Today at age fifteen, I’m proud to announce I am an Entrepreneur! At my age stand 6 ft 2 and wear a size 12 in a half shoe, so just that alone is very expensive on my mom. I got tired of hearing “Money doesn’t grow on trees” when I ask for V-bucks or something I wanted, so I decided to plant my own tree! I told my mom I was interested in starting my own gaming store or either a YouTube channel. Immediately she began to research inexpensive ways to get started to help me. She came across information about dropshipping, got with some vendors, and we opened an online store within a week selling electronics and gaming accessories.
The name of my store is “Gamer-zon.” I tailor all products to what this generation of kids and teens like to use as an accessory when playing games, since staying home playing the Xbox/Playstation is really all we’re interested in these days. All proceeds are saved for my future College fund since that day will be coming around soon. Right now, being a young Entrepreneur is teaching me financial literacy, how to manage a business, develop the skill set I need for the future, and how to market. I literally turned something I love into a passive income! As a young, Black man being raised in a single-parent household and up against so much in the world we live in today, I just aspire to be successful and keep beating the odds!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the biggest challenge I face is marketing and repetition. Just because I made a website and posted my products doesn’t mean I will get sales! I have to creatively find ways to market every day. I started selling T-shirts with my logo, paying for social media ads, etc, just a few things to name to keep viewers interested and gain new customers. I set a goal for myself and sometimes, meeting that sales goal is challenging. But that’s a part of being an Entrepreneur.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Gamer-zon offers gaming accessories and electronics such as consoles, led lights for home/TV, gaming headphones, gaming keyboards, etc just to name a few. We also offer price comparison if our price isn’t lower than retail prices we price match for our customers. Our items are always in stock and we’re always adding to our product list to make shopping easier for your kid’s gaming needs!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as doing something you love while benefiting from it. Success is not just a financial goal. It’s accomplishing your purpose in life!
