Community Highlights: Meet Kristen Bush of Tommies Candles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Bush.

Hi Kristen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I initially started my business after shopping for a candle during a business trip. I was visiting a small museum that exclusively sold products from local vendors. I purchased a small hand poured candle and loved the idea of making my own toxic free hand poured candles, while representing the area I live in. I immediately thought to myself, I could do this. When I got home I started making test candles and officially launched my business on Father’s Day the following year.

Scents are connected to memories and can remind you of a special place and time. As a lover of candles, I named my company Tommies Candles to celebrate my late father and the warm memories I have of him. I make my candles using jars shipped from Texas and 100 % soy wax purchased in Georgia, which represent two places that are special to me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I initially launched I only launched with one fragrance – Lemon Pound Cake. I sold out within hours, which was amazing! However, I wish I had more fragrance options for my inaugural launch. My original idea was to start with a signature scent. I have since diversified my product line to cater to a broader customer base. Overall, I am learning to be a better business woman and chandler every day.

We’ve been impressed with Tommies Candles, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tommies are 100% soy candles hand poured in Georgia. Our candles burn evenly and clean, producing less soot and reducing the amount of indoor air pollution.

Tommies Candles are all-natural and 100% vegan. We use elegant scents that are delicious, well-pronounced and designed to add serenity to any space. Our passion is to spread our love for candles and set the tone for life’s most rememberable moments.

Tommies recently added 100% soy wax melts and hand-dipped incense to our collection and plan to expand with more products in the future.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My work ethic. I take pride in whatever I do and want to ensure I provide quality products and excellent customer service. My candles are sincerely handcrafted with love.
