Today we’d like to introduce you to Nayeli Damian.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When COVID started, I didn’t have as much to do or friends to hang out with. I’m also a competitive dancer, and I was unable to do that. I love cooking and baking with my family, and I decided to work more on that. A few neighbors started trying my baked goods and people started to ask me to make their cakes. It really took off from there. One day my mum suggested we make our own little business. At first, it seemed like a joke but I got really excited about it and since then we haven’t really looked back. We have had an amazing year, baking for people and also contributing to many fundraising events.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Generally, it has been such a positive experience. We have struggled with some cakes and had to find ways to improve… it has definitely been a really steep learning curve. My mum is really supportive and creative and always there to help me. I think the challenge now is that we almost have more orders than we can manage, so we have to decide how to move forward. We are also trying to find our niche area.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a 6th-grade student at Renfroe in Decatur. My mum is a health scientist and works in malaria control around the world, she is an amazing cook though and I think her love of travel and other countries has really helped me. Together we have taken classes from some of the best bakers in the world, and we are excited to continue to do that. I’m the future I really hope to pursue studying patisserie and I have started to learn French to help prepare me for that
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Our little business has been amazing for our family. Even my little sister Zizi who is eight, is part of the business. My great-grandmother was a baker in England, and many of my aunts are exceptional bakers, so I hope to follow in their footsteps.
One other thing I’m really proud of is the kinds of ingredients we use. We take a lot of pride in using amazing high-quality ingredients. For example the chocolate we use is Belgium chocolate made with traceable beans. We also make our own extracts and use fresh ingredients versus artificial colors and flavorings. When you get a product from us it is made from scratch for you. We make a lot of cakes but we also make cake pops, other desserts and hot chocolate bombs! We were even mentioned in the Atlanta Magazine last year for being one of the top 6 places to buy them. I’m looking to expanding into wedding cakes and I’m starting classes with a well-known baker in England next month.
