Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanterria Stegall.
Hi Shanterria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Art has always been the foundation of many of my talents. I’ve always had an immense imagination since I was a little girl. I would make cars out of cardboard boxes at the age of seven! I’ve always loved drawing and sculpting. Which eventually led me to perform makeup and nail application. Then I discovered my specialty as a SPX Artist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been very challenging yet exciting! I ended up moving from my hometown with my 3-year-old daughter to further my career and education. The most challenging part of this journey is starting completely over in a new area. I was booked all the time in my hometown. Now that I live in Atlanta I have to start from scratch with building a clientele. Which hasn’t been easy being that I’m in school in the mornings and working at night every day. I don’t have a staff so I had to learn to wear many hats in my business. I have to make sure my inventory is stocked, schedule clients accordingly, advertise, and be my own financial advisor.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multi-faceted artist, I can draw, sculpt, apply nail and makeup applications. My specialty is Costume Makeup and Special Effects! I can be as gory, abstract and creative as I want. This is why I love this style of makeup because I can really show who Shanterria is! I don’t limit myself to one thing I can do all aspects of beauty! Not only do I have incredible makeup skills but I can also provide skincare regimens that’ll help keep your skin clean, healthy and vibrant.
This is what sets me apart from other talented artists. I’ve been known for my goriest looks on social media. I have been told that my work will make you cringe and discover phobias that you thought you never had. What makes me most proud is seeing the transformation in my work. Seeing the growth and determination! I’m not a quitter; I’m very diligent and determined in whatever I put my mind to. If a client asks to like Freddy Kruger, I’m going all in, or if a client asks for the prettiest natural enhancements, I’m putting in the same amount of effort. I knew Makeup Artistry was the right career for me when I would get up in the middle of the night and spend 3 hours doing a look on myself at 4:00 am, purchasing tutorials left and right on how I can perfect my craft, or when clients would book me and I was always ready to showcase my skills and provide each client desired look!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I had to learn to slow down and enjoy the process! I’ve always had this image in my head of where I’ll be in my life with my career. I wanted to skip some steps of life to get where I want to be but it doesn’t always work that way. I used to make quick irrational decisions and realize later what I missed out on or what I could’ve prevented. I had to learn to thank God for every good and bad day. I had some days where I would struggle and lose motivation because of everything that was going on in my life. I learned how to be thankful and show gratitude along this process. God had always made way for me and my daughter!
