Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Serenity.
Hi Blair, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I started singing at the age of two years old the first song I remember singing is Once Apon A December, from the Disney movie Anastasia. Me and my mom used to sing this song all the time together. As I became older, I have sung the song My All by Mariah Carey. At the age of five years old my mom then knew that I would become a good vocalist.
Once I entered my mid-childhood, I found a love for Whitney Houston and my first song by her I sang was “Saving All My Love” on the American idol PlayStation game lol at my uncle’s house me and my cousin use to have competitions and that was always my go to. Once I turned ten, I fell in love with Beyoncé I told my mom I wanted to be like her when I grew up. Of course, as I became older, I began to practice her performing ethics and vocal ranges. As time went on through late elementary and middle school, I joined choir, bell’s ensemble, violin and acting on top of being in flair dance studios and Cahill performing arts summer camp. Once I reached high school, I became more focused on my vocals and acting, I joined the Milford Mill Concert Chorale with director Thaddeus Price. That’s when my singing and acting went to a whole new level. Being in the choir taught me a lot about vocal control, sight-reading, melodic scales, rhythmic patterns and more. I had found a whole world when it came to singing. I subbed and dubbed in acting through high school and as a kid, I played in Fame, the wiz and others.
Once my senior year came I knew I was going to school for voice. I went to auditions for music colleges. I was accepted in AMDA college and Conservatory for performing arts in Los Angles California with a partial scholarship and I also was accepted and waitlisted for Berkeley College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, I still could not afford either school, even with a partial scholarship. Now, after I graduated from high school, I did make a choice that weren’t so smart, but I moved to Atlanta and started modeling and getting my face out here. I ran into John Boy who is a big producer and has made beats for Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon VIC and More. He introduces me to a lot of people. I also had my run-in with a lot of other artists as well. And when I thought Atlanta couldn’t get better, I was cast for a Netflix series called Prank Encounters by Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson on stranger things) That was such a scary but fun and amazing experience. My episode is the last one called split party, Gaten was super sweet and so humble. Then I really dived deep into my music I dropped my first song in may 2020 called Money Bagg which reached over 5000 views on YouTube and over 7300 streams on Spotify. I was super excited and I had my Engineer Royce Ramirez every step of the way. I recorded my first song in Atlanta with Royce Ramirez and he was so dope and he helped me a lot, from getting comfortable with recording to getting more skilled with my writing, he is also a dope artist as well. Now I can say I’m ready to elevate to the next level in my career and hopefully get signed by a major label and become the icon I know I can be!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every successful person has gone through some hardships. The road for me has not been easy at all. I went from signing a bad manager contract to having a lot of issues with my self-esteem and personal life. I still have my struggles but I stay positive through everything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist, you have to be different. If not, you will never make it. I am different in many ways. My sound is more of an urban pop, I focus on melodic scales and harmonies in my songs. When it comes to being a singer, I have to make sure I sound great without auto-tune so it’s very important to have full control and good breathing technique. I am most proud of getting the opportunity to be around some well-known names in the industry like R&B singer Glen Jones, Blues singers Sir Charles and Shirley Brown as well as others. Also, I’m super proud I finally finalizing my first EP that will be dropping in Summer 2021. Lastly, what sets me apart from other artist is that I have an original sound that comes from within I also write my music and create my own cover art to my songs.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I just want to say that I’m super thankful for my engineer Royce Ramirez he actually helped me find my love and passion for music again. He helped me get my mojo back by pushing me to get in the studio and write songs and sing them to the best of my ability. Also, I have plenty of songs on all streaming platforms, including my newest one, “DON’T FORGET ME.” Make sure you guys check it out. I also want to thank Voyage Magazine for having me!!!
