Can you tell us about your new books geared towards edifying African American children?
I wrote “Little Black boy, you are a king” and “little black girl, you a unique” to give young African American children a visual of powerful individuals that have started trends and changed the world.
What inspired you to write these books?
I was inspired to write this book, because i have African American boys and now days all you see on TV is the murders of blacks by police etc. so I wanted to be able to come in and give them something positive and I want them to be inspired by it, so that they can hopefully strive to become someone powerful within their generation.
As an author, what was is the goal you wanted to accomplish for your readers?
My goal with this book is to plant seeds of greatness within our youth, so that they will know that the saying the sky is the limit is not cliché and that whatever they put their mind and strive hard to achieve will happen for them.
What would you tell someone that is wanting to write but not sure how or where to start?
I would say JUST START and focus on perfecting it later. The more you talk and think about it the more you allow fear to steal it from you.
How do you think reading and writing can have an impact on the African American community?
I believe literacy is the key that unlocks many doors for the African American community if we can’t read we can’t write and that alone will keep us stuck. If we pushed education and literacy within our communities I believe that it would cut down on crime within our communities amongst ourselves, because my personal opinion is that a lot of the individuals struggling and feeling like this is the way they have to live probably had issues with reading or writing in school and there were no genuine resources they could turn to, so they did what they felt was the only thing left to do.
What inspired you to be a writer?
It was more like a calling for me I have a powerful message, but being an introvert/extrovert sometimes I feel like shouting verbally to the world causes me to be exhausted and sometimes individuals that don’t want to hear it have to hear it. But with writing those that want it can get it and I don’t have to feel exhausted giving it to them.
Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
