Today we’d like to introduce you to Egypt Thomas.
Hi Egypt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
You know, I’ve always thought I’d be this famous singer, traveling the world, singing my songs and playing my guitar. Although that still wouldn’t be such a bad idea, God has moved me along a different path where my creativity runs wild. I’m Egypt, the owner of Events 2 Do for two exciting years now, a mom of two wonderful boys, and I’m also an educator.
I began my passion for balloon artistry and set design after writing a book and having to design a space at a local function for the promotion of the book. Surprisingly, people began to take notice of the display I created, more so than my book and wanted to hire me for events. In my head, I honestly thought I was following the right path of becoming this well-known author, but my display introduced me to an industry that I never dreamed I’d be so passionate about. Immediately, I wanted to learn more, and my world shifted. Since then, I’ve realized I am greater at something else, and that’s taking the ideas of my clients and bringing them to life through design. My goal now is to build my brand by gaining more exposure with pop-up booths around the city.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve never known of a journey to not have any bumps in the road, stumbles or setbacks. So of course, I met some challenges along the way. But I’d have to say the biggest obstacle was overcoming fear and getting out of my own way! I struggled to find confidence in myself and doubted being great at almost everything. Now, my most proudest moment is being a black business owner and finally realizing that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
At Events 2 Do we specialize in balloon decor of all forms such as; balloon garlands, columns, arches, balloon walls and so much more. Our decor is great for parties, baby showers, school events, corporate events, indoor and outdoor. We also provide set design for photographers, stylists, and other clients wanting to add more visuals to their products with unique backdrops and props customized to their theme. Our designs make great selfie booths for guests to enjoy at any event.
We’re most proud of our ability to create balloon sculptures of castles and other great figures while also taking a client’s vision to capture every great moment on and off camera through set design. I believe what sets Events 2 Do apart from others is the rapport we have with our clients and the lengths we’re willing to go to meet their needs for a successful event.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that in order to be good at what you do, you must first believe in yourself and not seek validation of others to believe and cheer you on. I’ve been guilty of doing that many times during this journey but quickly realized that gets me nowhere. My success lies within my faith in God, who lives in me, and if I kept track of the opinions of others, I’d never arrive to my destiny. I’ve also learned that you must invest in yourself/your business to achieve what you’ve set out to do. I believe in taking advantage of all opportunities presented that will promote growth, whether it’s a vendor, attending conferences or networking luncheons. I’ve learned that within each experience, there’s an opportunity to grow.
